Addiction 2021.1

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Yeah that's not a technomic. It's out WELL beyond the line of safety.

In order for those shifters to work, that stem need to be like another foot higher.

Breakfast was my thing before the kids came along - we used to have friends and neighbors over for brunch pretty regularly. My wife's cousin will still bring up the eggs Benedict brunch that I made for the crew when we stayed with them while visiting 15 years ago. I think they want to do that again, but that was a ton of work - it was for something like 10-12 people, I don't know what I was thinking.
I would have really enjoyed that gig! Only problem was that my wife’s career choice could not produce an income even close to mine. When we had our first, I made five times what she made, so she “retired” and stayed home with our kids. We found a huge value in having a stay at home parent, but recognize that it’s not for everyone.

I enjoy cooking, and typically take the lead when entertaining. Similarly no Iron Chef candidate. Also enjoy making breakfasts, and really like a good omelet and Eggs Benedict.

Had a really good Benedict at our hotel today - Pain au lait, tomato jam, slice of pork belly (about 1/4” thick), eggs, and a dill hollandaise.

I made nicely overdone sweet potato “fries” in the convection oven. No peanuts.

Yeah, if you want a sit-up bike, get a sit-up bike or at least put flat bars on the thing!

These days, if we are cooking for just the two of us, one cooks and the other cleans and we rotate the cooking.

Aside from that, my wife’s specialty is picking up carry out, and my specialty is picking up the tab when dining out.

I warmed up some corned beef, made a fresh batch of cabbage. We're all outta taters so I had cheepo white bread with Irish butter on it. The ladies are bread snobs, so did not partake in that portion of the meal.

Bread baking day here. There was fresh bread when I got back from my ride. Bread and butter was my recovery snack.

I love that an Addict in AZ regularly posts updates about a lake that I ride through about 50 times per year.

It's not your typical lake - it's like a conglomeration of several (dozens?!) large lakes and there are a few ways to cut through without completely circumnavigating it.

Yeah a high school friend moved up to Mound and posts nothing but lake pics, so I thought I'd keep everyone here informed of conditions
