Was there a re-run of "Last Tango in Paris" I missed?

Butter is too easily washed out. Get some real grease in there....

A whole grease-gun tube of auto lithum grease which is what I use for most stuff is cheaper pound for pound than butter.

I'd suggest you use some herring oil, y'know, like you're using in this troll. Nice try.

All of those are excellent ideas.

As for me, though, there's a neighborhood kid ... about 22 ... who thinks he's stylish.

He wears wayyy too much pomade in his hair. Periodically, I just lift him by the ankles and use his head to lubricate the whole bike.

He's gotten used to it.

I'm not sure if you're serious or just trolling.
OK, I'll assume that you're serious. IMHO, do the headset over with grease. Butter supports microbiological growth. It will become rancid, become moldy and dry much faster than something like white grease.
On the otherhand, you're more than welcome to ride with us down here in NC. We like it when someone lubes with butter, keeps the flys away from the rest of us.

Use olive oil for Italian bikes. Well, I guess butter is OK for Northern Italian bikes.

Use olive oil. It will help lower your bike's cholesterol.

Make sure it's unsalted butter. Salted butter will lead to corrosion.

exas, if anyone uses the term "LOL" on this thread, it stands for "Land O' Lakes" which is also the preferred butter-based bicycle lubricant.

I use Valvoline car grease. $5 a tub which is about two tubes of standard sized bike grease.

In all seriousness however, organic oils/fats are fine and effective to use in a pinch, say if on the road and a squeak develops, stop by a cafe and pick up a pat of butter. Clean and re-lube properly after ride is over.

But for a new install when appropriate materials are otherwise available, stupid.
