Just picked up this Velo Sport. Funny, not sure why I looked at the ad, normally I would skip right over a Velo Sport.
Tange Infinity tubing. Full Suntour Cyclone, even down to the pedals. Double water bottle mounts so I would assume later 80's. Looks like it was hardly ridden, Hopefully go through it cleaning and greasing on the weekend. Kinda like the yellow housing, I'll have to hunt around for some.
60 cm C to top, 23.6 lbs.

Very nice looking VS, congrats on getting it. Always liked Suntour components, they are my poorman's Campagnolo in their upper range, especially their late 70s stuff I enjoyed having. What is Velo Sport's history, if you are privy to it? I honestly have never heard of this marque.

If you do need some yellow cable housing, Shimano and Jagwire both have it in their lines, I have some Shimano housing in yellow on my vintage ride. Enjoy the ride, it looks sweet.

Cable housing is also available in any color at .99 per foot from many online vendors.

True, very true, just a thought was all, just a rambling thought. Mine was some left over from the LBS, that he sold me for a buck, probably about 2-½ feet total, and it matched the yellow housing that DD was kind enough to include with the frame set. I saw what you refer to on Amazon, just couldn't find it quickly. if I had some/enough I'd happily send it to him.

I am pretty sure Velosport is now Procycle, Quebec's largest cycle manufacturer. They distribute Colnago, Miele, eVox and Rocky mountain. Since 1970 they have made more than 6 million bikes. Mostly low range bikes for chain stores like Canadian tire. The VeloSport line was mostly sold in real bike stores and ranged in quality from fair to quite good.

I've been surprised by some of the Velosports models that have passed through our local co-op, we just had a nice one with full 600 similar to the bike posted in this thread, it was pretty large too. My commuter bike is a velo sport hybrid from the early 90s, all cro-mo frame and nice geometry but they skimped on the dropouts. Seems like they made a full gamut of bikes.

Very nice score. Your bike was about 2nd in the hierarchy. The Supra was above it with all Campy SR on an SL frameset. They were the team bike of the Bloor Cycle racing team for a couple of years. You'll like the Cyclone equipment, it has lovely aesthetics and functionality.

Back in the day, Procycle had the license to produce Peugot in Canada. They also produced an entire range of Velosport bicycles.

I missed this thread the first time around but since it has resurfaced I will add to some of the information. The bicycle appears to be a 1986 model, as it is friction shifting (AccuShift came out in 1987) and the 1985 version was Shimano New 600EX. 1985 was also the first year for the Super Prestige in the Velo Sport line-up. I don't have the 1986 literature, but in 1985 it was 5th in the lineup.

As noted the Velo Sport Supra was team issue for Bloor Cycle. The model was released in 1983 and the Bloor Cycle Team replaced it in 1986 with their top house brand model, the Santini Giro CX.

The history of Velo Sport is a bit murky, with various conflicting stories. Circa 1973/74, Velo Sport Inc. was purchased by the Dutil family who had reportedly been assembling Japanese bicycles for Canadian chain stores since 1971. Velo Sport Inc, was actually a subsidiary or division of ProCycle Inc, which was set up circa 1978 when they started frame manufacture. The Velo Sport brand was discontinued circa 2001.

Velo Sport/Procycle was also closely aligned with Peugeot. They obtained exlusive Canadian distribution rights in 1974. In 1978 they obtained Canadian manufacturing rights. In 1990, when Peugeot was considering abandonment of the USA market, Procycle purchased Peugeot USA and took over manufacturing and distribution of Peugeot bicycles for the USA market. They dropped Peugeot in 2001, upon expiration of the license agreement.

When I worked at Bloor cycle they had Velo Sports with Dura Ace Ax as their team bikes. I was able to buy a used one from them. Unfortunately I sold it. It was a salmon colour and the frame was aero tubing. A very nice bike and a wonderful ride. I'm still hoping to get another Velo Sport aero-frameset.

This is very interesting, as I do not recall such a model, even though I sold Velo Sport and was competing and coaching during the era. I still have all my Velo Sport literature from the Dura-Ace AX era (1981-1985), so I dug it out. They never catalogued an aero tubed frame with Dura-AX.The Super Aero (1982-1984) used aero tubing but was 600AX and only ever came in silver. The Aero (1983-1984) was the only other aero tubed model. It was primarily Adamas AX and only came in chamapgne. There was a Dura-Ace AX model called the Image (1983-1985) in the factory salmon/vermeil colour, but it was Tange #2 with standard, round tubes. There was also an Image Dura (1984-1985) with Dura-Ace AX but it used natural finish, round, aluminum tubing.

My recollection of the Bloor team bicycles are Velo Sport Supra models with Columbus SL and Campagnolo Super Record. I'm sure we have some pictures of my races with some Bloor riders in them. I'll try to dig them up. I think that I also have an official Bloor team photo from the era.

If the Bloor team used an aero tubed, Dura-Ace AX model, it may have may been a custom build for time trial use. In which case, you'll be very hard pressed to find another one. The Aero and Super Aero used cold formed down and seat tubes that transformed from round at the ends, to aero profile in the centre section. They're not very attractive frames.

I'd love to see some of those photo's of the Bloor Race Team and bikes. I am trying to restore Eon Dornellas Velo Sport Supra from back then (mid 80's). Been sitting in my basement for years.

And I'd love to see your Supra! I've seen my share of Super Prestiges, but have never seen a top of the line Supra.

OMG. You are the man! Thank you so much for this. It came to me with a re-spray back in '87. The long story short is a childhood friend of mine got all of Eon's hand me downs as his dad (Aubrey Bryce) was really good friends with Eon and raced with him back then. He sold it to another friend of ours who rode it for a year before selling it to me (I was 13 years old and paid $600 for it back then which was huge for me). So that would make sense timeline wise. Really looking forward to getting it all cleaned up! I'll post some pics of it. Can't believe the thread got revived...lol

It seems a little ironic that Eon D'Ornellas (owner manager of D'Ornellas Bike Shop) was sponsored by Bloor Cycle. Back when I bought an Orbea at D'Ornellas in ~72, there was a cultural divide between the Italian and English clubs in Toronto. Eon was a very accomplished rider in his day.

I have a factory Peugeot/Velo Sport catalogue of that period with a full page, colour photo of the Supra. It is currently on loan to a friend but I will scan it and forward it to you as soon as the catalogue returns if it would help with decal details and placement.

The D'Ornellas shop goes back to 1972? I wasn't aware about it until the very late 1980s and thought he had opened it just about the time that the Kent family sold Bloor Cycle and the race team was dissolved, which would have been circa 1988-1989.

I'll ask them...perhaps the 70's were more of a blur than I thought. Darn sure it's the same shop I bought from but no receipt or even pics.

It was mostly all Campagnolo on their inventory and they tried to upsell me with my paltry $150 budget. I ended up with a Zeus Alfa group with steel rims and a corn cob. Way faster than the UO-8's my buddies had.
