Alas Fiona has had some peeling decals that were not clear coated. After contacting Greg Softly in OZ, he will send me new replacements for her. I spent about thirty minutes this morning with the owner of Shelbyville Polishing and Plating, and he says the chrome can be restored over this coming winter. I have used the company before and they do a top notch job and don't skimp on the procedures to make the finish correct. The paint must come off and the frame will undergo a complete re-plating as a full chrome frame. I am sure there will be plenty of suggestions as to the final finish after the work is done. I am leaning toward a clear over the chrome to get final finsh but that is gonna be a few months away. Smiles, MH

Fiona Faggin II is on her way to me. Not as adventurous a paintjob as Mad Honk 's new friend Fiona Faggin, but some cool details nonetheless. I was heartbroken that Fiona the first did not fit no matter what I did, but happy to have found Fiona a new friend...and to have found Fiona II.

We were chatting about the year/provenance of Fiona I being 1991-ish. I think Fiona II is probably 1982? Someone can correct me but the portacartegena (portacatena...haha) indicates likely 1980, 81 or 82.

Might need some re-chroming eventually, but I like the scars and patina. Should arrive from France in July 2024.

As delivered

A few pictures as delivered.

Would love to hear some thoughts on the year though I think it’s 1981ish. It has portacatena drop, someone drilled for recessed brakes at some point, the paint is pretty and slightly spidered, the chrome seems thin and pitted...

The head tube has the dimpled Faggin panto, and the BB has the F cutout and underside loop cable guides. I think someone may have repainted the cutouts but the blue paint original.

Any Faggin experts have any ideas? 3alarmer T-Mar non-fixie It seems more than tretubi, since I wouldn't expect Campy drops with lesser tubing.

I emailed Faggin's in Italian to be polite (I do not know Italian, I know Google Translate). Hopefully something comes up.

Stuff that is Standard Faggin: Bottom Bracket F/hoop cable guides, Crown Panto, chrome fork and rear triangle.
Stuff that is a bit more rare but still Faggin: Pantograph head-tube, Scalloped stay caps with panto, portcatena drops

There's a few things that throw me off. The brake bridge, the fish mouth stay ends and the lack of a panto on the BB, no Fs cut out of the lugs (though I have seen a few with the more standard Italian cutouts)

Well, it certainly looks like a Faggin.

Other than that I have nothing to add, I'm afraid. Looking forward to whatever information comes back from Padua.

A few months ago I sent an email to Faggin requesting info on my particular frame set. No answer. I watched the interview and mini documentary on Amazon and I can understand why they have not get back to us. Marcelo has full time duty as the frame builder and machining all tubes, Cristina welding and accounting, and their son Davide marketing and sales. One gentleman dedicated to restoration. A humble family with amazing skills.

These efforts amount to about 70 frames per year. We are very fortunate to be the caretakers of these absolutely beautiful frame sets.

I can only hope one day to have a frame built custom for me. Making it a goal for three years from now.

I think I agree completely about the email. If they get back to me great, if not, I know that Faggins don't follow much of a pattern or system. The paint jobs on some particular models are standardized, but I also know, they went off script on bicycles...build, paint, etc...I also know that they were quirky in that they used pieces they had left for future bikes.

So I think my bike is a Faggin. I think it was made of Columbus SL (it is pretty light) but maybe not...who knows on that one. I think it was made sometime around 1981/82 (Portacatena drops). I think it likely has been repainted. If that's all I get from it, I am stoked to build it up!
