Ti Hardtails - is it just me?
Somehow hardtails are incredibly awesome to me. Something about them that is so nice. And then to have a ti frame with quality parts.
Test rode one that came in at about 20 pounds. Used, but gorgeous. Will have to buy one someday...

Being someone with 1 Ti hardtail and 1 Ti rigid (and a Ti road bike) I can say for sure TI is awesome and you should always get one.

I certainly like mine, but it's possible to make a great (or terrible) frame from any of the common materials. Corrosion-proof and no need for paint are nice features.

man, mountain bikes change so fast, it's hard to believe in the idea that a titanium bike is an "investment" or a "forever" bike. I'm going to stick with aluminum unless my ship comes in

I built mine three years ago after riding or owning just about every other kind of MTB and circling back to the old 26" hardtail. A variety of full suspension bikes, 29er, "plus" bike, none of them work as well for me. I might have to live with a rigid fork someday but I don't see the rest of the bike changing.

after looking at some of the bikes Moots makes, id say they come close. But regarding cost, the Moots YBB (Mountaineer) frameset brand new msrp is $3699 with complete bikes starting at $7300
The msrp on my new carbon FS 29’er frameset is 3699. I hope to keep the bike 5 years
granted, its an apples to oranges comparison because the bikes are totally different, but i can understand the allure of Ti. And compared to building up a boutique carbon 29’er, or purchasing anything with an S-Works label, the price of Ti doesnt seem too crazy

yes, it's funny how they can use less fiber and charge more for adding a decal, isn't it?
I don't know what the markup is for a titanium vs other metal tube sets but I definitely feel it's out of proportion to the price tag on the frame. Maybe not for a boutique builder but Salsa frames, for instance, have seemingly bonkers prices for Taiwan or China factory frames, when you compare them to the BD or XACD frames.

It was a Brodie Cruzado. Beauty. And I would have bought it but the frame was dented. It rode great, but it was a matter of time till it cracked probably.

Well I guess if one is religiously committed to the 26” HT for mountain biking (or any other dead end tech) you won’t have to worry about new models coming out to tempt you.
