1978 Raleigh Professional

I saw this on the local CL and not sure if it is worth the asking price of $150. I have messaged the owner with a couple of questions and will probably go look at it . I believe it comes with the BB and headset as it shows in the pics but not listed on the sale. I have all the parts I need for a nice build on this after I cleanup the frame including a seventies Brooks Pro saddle. I don't mind a patina bike at all and I think some of this will clean up OK , it couldn't be any worse than my ItalVega and I love that bike!

A bit of surface rust for sure

If included in the sale the BB and HS are worth a 100.00.....you be the judge.

Too be honest, If it is your size and no damage without the BB and HS, it would still be worth it....bring cash offer a bit less.
Good Luck, Ben

.
...it's too bad about the corrosion, but IMO it's worth that price, even if you have to deal with that. These have long head tubes relative to size, so it's probably a little shorter in the seat tube than ou might suppose from looking at it. Make sure you measure it for fit. Good luck.

I hope you get it...a little OA bath will cure a lot of that corrosion.
Best, Ben

I sent another email through but no response yet. The listing isn't very old as far as I know so I am hoping it is still there. It has only been a couple of days and sometimes people don't respond right away. We will see....

I drove up there and met with a woman who said she was selling the frame for a friend and would not budge on price. I looked it over real close and after "the string test" and visual inspection decided it would be mine. I will build it up after a cleaning sometime in the near future . Right now I am taking my Colnago apart for restoration at Franklin Frame as Jack contacted me to tell me it is my turn. Thanks for the help on this frame, I'm sure this is going to be a fine riding bike once built. The lug work and build of the frame seem top notch . I noticed, while I was inspecting the frame , the hand filing and finishing of the lugs particularly around the head tube and top tube along with the window cut outs and the tapering of the seat stays as they partially wrap the top tube. Kabuki,
Good for you.....post some pictures and start a new thread on your build.
Best, Ben

other than the patina, it looks like the same bike. Mine measures 64 cm which I think is 25.5” according to the information on the original ad on the bike. What size tires are you running? I am hoping to fit 28 x 700 or maybe 27” if I could. I have a nice set of 27” wheels with Campagnolo HF record hubs. I know they came with low flange hubs and sew ups but I get a lot of thorns in my area.

...IIRC, this is the one they sold as a 24 1/2" frame. So it's probably a 59 or 60 measured c-c along the seat tube to the spindle.
There's room for 27" wheels on mine, those are 700c. I don't think I could fit 27's with a really wide tyre, though, because of the space between the chain stays.

That’s a very nice example . It is motivating me to get started. I may try to clamp one of the 27”ers on just to see . I think they have 1” wide Pasela tan sidewalks mounted.

Great that you got it these late 70's workshop frames are really great, Fully forge tempered top end steel so near nuke proof and fairly light with just the right amount of spring, I really like the late 70's Raliegh metalic two tone blue paint.
