Addiction 2021.3

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Hey, tell her you’ve planned a side trip to The Nations’s Capital to show the kids and, after an appropriate interval, reveal it was really to go on a three hr. bike ride with an internet rando.

It’s under discussion. More realistic is spending a few months there each winter. The legalities of living there permanently are complicated so unlikely to make a permanent move. Everything is on hold now because, you know.

Today’s ride will be steamy and sweaty. There will be an extra water stop at what is likely the most bicycle-friendly rest stop ever.

The forecast is very autumnal. I'm sure that 99 will end up being a 109 buy the time we get there though.

That reminds me - there had been some discussion of moving a portion of a VA trip up to DC, mother- and brother-in-law included; they still haven't visited the city in the 15+ years that they've been in VA. We decided against doing that on this summer visit, though, thinking that it might be uncomfortably warm for my mother-in-law. The last I heard, we were going to revisit the idea for the fall or winter.

If that comes to fruition, and I'll advocate for it, I always like visiting DC, I'll bring the bike along and bag off on a day when their sightseeing itinerary isn't of particular interest. Weather permitting, of course.

I've met a few internet randos through another chat group. One is from your area. I'm still alive.

Currently, dark and rainy. I can hear thunder in the distance. Today's my half day at the shop. If this continues, it will be a soggy commute.
