You can replace just the chainrings in front too, not the whole crank. What I found is that I needed to replace just the big ring on an old bike that I bought on ebay, the middle ring was fine and the granny was hardly used at all. I just got off that bike about 10 minutes ago and it is fine after about 5 years since replacement,

Now that my brain has returned… if it is Uniglide cassette, you can just flip the cogs over, if this hasn’t been done already. If you need a new 1st position cog, I think Loose Screws still has them; but I haven’t checked for a while.
