Was not nearly so lovely today, this was definitely superior weather to the snow pellets I was getting pelted with today. On the other hand, the road was hard packed(frozen) and made for a fast ride with skinny 32's on the bike.

I have no idea if they have a particular name in English but those are pools to contain and redirect landslides. Where I live it's a desert terrain but sometimes (every 10 years or so) we get an unusual amount of precipitation which back in 1991 caused a series of landslides that severely affected the city. The pools were built a few years later in the major ravines around the city to prevent this from happening again.
I heard on BBC that there was a lot of rain in Chile, landslides and many are without water in Santiago.
Praying and hoping you are OK.

Some gravel roads in NoCal
There are some nice gravel roads around here, a lot of them drop down into river bottoms then climb out. I've ridden these all with my canti-equipped touring bike with 35C tires. I recently picked up a Felt V100 so the descents wouldn't be so exciting!
Here's Yankee Jim Road, dropping down southbound to the North Fork of the American River:

This is on Finning Mill Road, outside Foresthill:

Here's a downhill stretch (southbound) on Ponderosa Way:

And this is the river crossing at the bottom of Ponderosa Way:

And here's the Mercian after some dirty riding!

Looking forward to more gravel with my new Felt this season!

@rumrunn6;
Mostly just deer and small critters like squirrels and skunks. Never seen any bear on my bike, but I have when driving through some of this country!

The first picture is on Powerline Road. I briefly left the trail because the stream running beside it had decided to not merely be running beside it. I was okay with just dealing with the water when it was only my tire submerged, but once it got up to my derailleur and I started carrying the bike, it seemed like it might be worth it to momentarily ride someplace else.
Second picture is a bit farther south, back on the trail.
I ultimately didn't spend all that much time on the trail. The pictures show good gravel, but it features a big variety of surfaces, and more than my bike can comfortably handle. While I was bouncing around on thorn-covered rough grass in sight of Highway 530 I saw a paceline fly past, and decided to retreat to the silky-smooth pavement.

Thanks for the info, HTupolev!
I had plans to hike in the North Cascades on Sunday and wound up in the MFK Snoqualmie instead so as not to get in the way of the Remember Oso event.
