Watch "Real Housewives" of whatever city, women are way, way, way more competitive than men. By orders of magnitude.
Why is it, if I am in a bar hanging out with a group of men and women, the men notice the women coming into the bar, and the women, watch the women coming into the bar?
But let me add to this...I think women cyclists rock and I really wish there were more of them. They deserve to be paid as well as men but I do understand the ruthless commercial reasons that they aren't. It sucks. I really wish more women would get into it, swell the ranks and make some pressure in the industry.

Just go watch local cat 1/2 mens and womens race.
See which of the group tends to attack right from the gun and more often
it's got nothing to do with "crashing" that's just bs and sour grapes

So why is it that girls compete over who has the best shoes, who has the best man, etc.

The question was about sports, not girls checking out other girls in bars...

It will take some time. Women's tennis is a good example, it's just as interesting than the men's (post McEnroe). The problem with women's cycling now is that 3-4 athletes win most of the big races - and 80-90% of the time it's Vos. Once the gap between the best and all the others closes it will be a lot more interesting. Personally, I think Vos could win races against the men, she's got more balls than 90% of the men on the pro tour will ever have.

The Real Housewives stuff, I do not know about. But in my life experiences, women are much more competitive with other women than men are. Also, they definitely are more vicious with rivals or potential rivals than men are. Be it in career situations and otherwise. These might not be the norm, but in my experience, it definitely looks that way.

No kidding. It takes real balls to line up in a field of twenty and demand the same prize money as those lining up in a field of one hundred. I know I couldn't do it.
