Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Definitely agree on the saddle looks. It's super ugly! I think its known as being the ugliest saddle made (but one of the most comfortable). First picture as I just put it together today so no fancy ones yet haha. But yea everything else is comfort oriented. For $540 it'll do.

I got blasted about having too many stem spacers, too I don't think it's a big deal.
I'd never photo a bike with the chain on the small ring
I'm not nuts about the typeface used on the wheels, I'd be pulling that off right quick.

Otherwise, it's pretty nice. 7.5?

Ritchey RL2

Alright, gang. Go easy on me. Its my first road bike Ever. Ritchey Road Logic 2.0, Ultegra 11s groupset w/ 11/32 cassette, Fulcrum Racing Zero Nite wheels. Steerer tube is going to be cut down when I return for final adjustments. Curious what you think

It's comfy so far but I haven't rode it far yet. It's suppose to be real comfortable so we'll see! At least the design has logic but yes super ugly

Mediocre at best, and the photography, background and general application here nets you a grand total score of 2/100.

Are the bars double wrapped? Seems thicker than the bike tubing. But overall a Looker

Saddle is absolutely atrocious (ugly but suppose to be comfy)
Too many spacers (bike came that way, might fix at a later time)
Bar angle is all wrong (prob my noobish install, although I typically like slightly tilted up)
Tires are not lined up with the valves - front is almost - rear is nowhere near lined up (didn't even know that's a thing)
Chain is on the small ring up front (oops)
Cages are too matchy matchy (matchy matchy, I like that)

Mediocre at best, and the photography, background and general application here nets you a grand total score of 2/100. (Doesn't the very definition of mediocrity infer a score of around 50, as in, "the middle"? I could take a picture outside by the lake but I didn't want that to inflate my score)
See my comments above. So a Z++ or a Y- on a graded scale? Actually I guess it would be a J- so that doesn't sound too bad. Not quite sure how to grade that. If I fix all the things you mentioned which would take like 5 minutes, would that get me above an I? I've always heard anything below D is failing though. I'd be curious to see your official bikeforums score card though to see where the 2 points came from. Paint job? At least I'm moving in the right direction from the prior 0 score. Baby steps. Right now this bike is averaging a 58% including other scores. I guess I'm halfway up the mountain (see what I did there?) So close to passing.

One thing I'm going to say right off the bat (can you do that 970+ pages into a thread?) is that this is a silly thread mainly just for fun. If this is your first road bike do no sacrifice a proper bike fit for this thread ever. Fit and comfort are more important.

Having said that it is a sharp looking bike but the steerer (I know what you said about cutting it but we have to take it as is. ) isn't cut and you have quite a few spacers under the stem. Also it looks better with the chain on the big ring.

Comfort and fit are more important than this thread (as I just mentioned above). Great bike for that price.

Glad this was pointed out. I definitely agree. This thread is one of my favorites here as it's really just a good time and fun. Love seeing everyone's bikes too.

A scathing review and 9.5/10? I'm flattered

To be honest, I was very hesistant about the white (snow) housing. But I think I like it. Probably.

well-proportioned, well set up (saddle rail centered on post, no leftover spacers, bar geometry, stem parallel to top tube ,etc)

Those things along with the basic blackness make it initially inoffensive. But scrutiny is not rewarded, it's punished. The more I look, the less I like. For instance: disc brakes are so inelegant compared to rim brakes. Pair them with a busy design on a technical looking bike and they are OK. Pair them with an otherwise minimalist, would-be elegant design and they are atrocious. White with gloss black? Classic, sometimes dazzling. White with matte black? Merely puzzling.
Not.

Cut the steerer tube and now it's completely slammed. I wish I had a more agressive stem but FSA does not make an 8* or 12* degree stem and I like the match of bars, stem and seatpost. This has to be the most beautiful bike I've ever seen in the flesh. Including Colnago C60 tricolores etc. There is something about all the colors coming together that makes it beautiful in my eyes. It rides pretty good too .
