First, ST angle rarely changes (much) within the frame sizes that cover the meaty part of the bell curve, so the setback of the seat post likely wouldn't change, even on the next size up. Next, the stem looks to be 100mm or so, which is pretty much standard fare; I don't think that you're in the neighborhood of a "looooong" stem until you're talking 130mm and longer; conversely, stems shorter than 90mm look stubby and out of place by modern standards. Last, he doesn't have a spacer stack under the stem, which means that he'd likely have to resort to a -17° stem on a larger frame with a taller HT and even that might not get him to where he needs/wants to be.

Absolutely nothing about his set-up suggests, to me, that he's on a frame that's too small.

I didn't say too small! It's probably a complication of the compact geometry and the sloping top tube making the bike appear smaller (and that space from the saddle to the hoods look longer). Also, what's so bad about a +/- 17 degree stem?

Yeah, I kind of figured that you were basing your comments off of older standards. A fist full of seat post is no longer the norm and, hell, at this point, I couldn't even tell you what my preferred ST length would be, because I don't know. Semi/compact geometry has made that mostly irrelevant and I couldn't tell you the ST length on any of my bikes in the last 15 years.

WhyFi , the stem length on the Helix is 110mm so you were just about spot on regarding my fit on the Helix. Even on my SBC 6061 which is a 58 (for some strange reason, they skipped 56 and 54 would’ve been way too small), I had to go 0 setback on the Seatpost and -17 on the stem. Luckily, I still had a carbon 0 stack height top bearing cover to get my fit just right on this 58cm frameset.
