Sell + Buy new bike or Part out and New Frame?

I've been riding my cross bike for the past 3 years and I've always liked it. I've tried to take care of it but just couldn't fall in love with it.
Perhaps I just find the design of the bike rather tacky and childish? It's been a fun bike to ride and was my most ridden bike of 2016 but I'm tempted to sell her.

I paid $1700 but I'm trying to sell it for $1000 with the hopes of getting $900 for it.

I'd like to use the money to buy a new Carbon CX bike.

The CX bike with a new Ultegra Groupset (11spd) costs $4100.

The frame costs $1700. (on sale)

Should I just keep my old bike-- take the parts off (Shimano 105 11-28 10spd, 36/46T, disc) and entry level Alex wheels, to use on a new frame?

Picture of the old bike.

option 1
Bought bike for $1700. Sell bike for $900. Buy new bike for $4100. TOTAL INVESTED- $4900

option 2
Bought bike for $1700. Sell frame and fork for $300. Buy new frameset for $1700. TOTAL INVESTED- $3100

I am guessing at the frame and fork being worth $300 on ebay.

So the question is- do you care about Ultegra and a good wheelset to justify an $1800 difference? You could donate your current frame and fork, and its still a $1500 difference even when not taking into account the tax deduction you can take.

If you dont like the current wheelset, you could use the $1500-1800 difference to get a better wheelset. Sell your current one to again offset the cost.

Im not saying you should part swap, its just a big jump in cost to go from your current 11sp 105 to 11sp Ultegra in this scenario. Especially when the difference is a whopping 250grams(8.8oz). Head to head: Shimano 105 v Shimano Ultegra | road.cc

This assumes you can make a straight swap of everything to the new frame.

Wow I never looked at it like that. That really helps MStateglfr.
How you put it, it seems silly to pay $1800 for a simple upgrade from Shimano 105 10spd to Shimano Ultegra 11 spd.

It would be a silly cost for me, but hey, you are playing above the rim with a bike like that so I am totally out of my element on what should be done.
I do have current 105 and older gen Ultegra...i love both and wouldnt think twice about using 105.

If the wheelset you get on the new complete bike is something incredible compared to your current wheelset, then the cost may be worth it. I use a $240 rim brake wheelset that I think is really good quality and I love, but also recognize I havent ridden anything viewed as elite, so I cant provide advice on what I dont know.

One thing I didnt think of earlier- if you have a shop build the new frame thatll eat into the savings for sure. Fogure $150 or so for them to swap everything over. But if you build it up on your own and are comfortable with it, then there is no extra build cost to consider.

I think largest difference is that the newest bikes have thru-axles now instead of quick releases. It's the same kind of release in my mountain bike and a 12mm thru-axle feels a lot sturdier I guess. But still, if it's worth the difference I guess that's up to me.

What is the new bike you're looking at? My guess is there is more than just a difference in the 105/Ultegra when comparing? Also there are lots of bikes out there with Ultegra than can be picked up for less than $4100 unless you are set on a certain bike already. You are in a good position having options though!

Thru-axles mean you need new wheels too. Does the new bike have hydraulic brakes? That's worth something.

Do you like the fit and geometry of the bike you have?
