Do I need a step down ferrule for the cable?

You can run it without but it looks nicer if you have the ferrule.

Since we're on the subject of a Super Record Pat 84.
I noticed the derailleur I purchased came with a different set of High and Low limit screws. Were these OEM or aftermarket replacement?
I got it at a great price so if theyre not OEM I already have a lead to replacement screws.
You may need to zoom in...ill take a better picture

I like them even more now that they're OEM

I have a '77 CPSC Nuovo Record group with this small black gizmo. The inner side of the crank arm also changed that year for safer front derailleur.

I have those on mine, I didn't know they were a bodge for 'safety' reasons. So they just pop off or do I unscrew the screw the whole way? Bike is at the in-laws so I can't try it myself as yet.

You have to remove the screw and pull it off, replace the screw. I think I might have them still on my Pat. 81. They don't bother me enough to remove them.
