Bike frame size and saddle width
We just got a 52cm Domane for my daughter, and she immediately took off the saddle and put her favorite one on.
The one it came with actually seems like a reasonable saddle -- they sell it for $100, so I presume it isn't like the plastic temporary pedals some bikes have.
The other thing I noticed is that the smaller-framed bikes have a wider saddle than the larger-framed bikes.
I'm completely at a loss for why they would do this.

The analogy was "throw-away saddles" being take-off items similar to how "throw-away pedals" are take-off items.
The saddle this bike came with retails for $100, so I am inferring it isn't supposed to be, by necessity, a take-off or "throw-away" item.
OK, that makes sense.

Maybe they figure more of the smaller frame bikes will be bought and ridden by women. I believe that the women typically have wider sit bones. Whether that's true or not I don't know. But even within that group, I'm sure there are those that don't need wider saddles.

Saddles and wheels tend to be at the appropriate tier level for the bike and it's groupset of other components. Pedals I've never gotten with any bike that was considered a real road bike. I did get pedals with the wanna-be a road or looks-like-a-lightweight-race bike models of Schwinn and Western Auto bikes I use to get.
