On my 1984 Centurion Le Mans, this brake lever looks to be original, even has 4-84 stamped on the part from Japan. Dia-Compte. I had one of the screws on one brake lever come apart while riding. The screw and plastic/teflon sleeve fell out. Is there any source for these? Thanks. The local shop did not have the old parts.

Keep in mind the wee little spring that should be used. It goes into the stud first, then mount the lever and plastic sleeve then the screw. That small spring keeps an anti-rotation pressure on the screw to keep it in place. I suspect many folks don’t know about the spring so it gets lost.

Somewhere is a ditch full of those springs, and lost socks.

My mistake on this was to not tighten or check tightness of the screws and other fittings in this classic bike. I was rounding a turn when the lever came off in my hand, I subconsciously grabbed the lever and pulled over to the side to find the fallen parts. Another bicyclist with the latest carbon fiber vintage came over to find out what was wrong. I walked up and down with leaf piles on the side of the road and thought of coming back after dark with a flashlight. Drivers probably thought I was a disoriented nut. I could have found the fallen parts if I really worked at it probably, but then again I could have been reported to the cops as a disoriented nut, time to get out the butterfly nets....

I can just imagine that scene! Ha !

Just a silly random thought here .
I have a magnet glued to the end of a piece of dowel in my workshop .
It works well for finding /picking up those little random steel bits that invariably escape my arthritic fingers .

maybe you could do similar at the scene of the crime so to speak

My sister gave this to me several years ago, the red tool on the right. It has multiple magnets in the casing and does a good job of picking up parts without bending over.

I tried to find one on the net but came us short. I have no idea where she found it. Look Chinese in quality.
I may pick one of these up
