Just bought these His & Hers bikes to do something with. They're very original/ low mileage. Does anyone know who made them, or have any info?
They seem pretty nice. The metallic black paint and lug lining is cool. Lowish-end parts, I think shimano light action, SR, etc.
26.8 posts, 27" wheels.
The guy said he bought them new in Sydney.

Not my field of expertise but Clamont I think was a house brand of Australian retailer Clarence Street Cyclery in the 1980s. Well-known Australian framebuilder Geoff Scott built them as well as his own frames branded Gefsco. A search for the builder and the retailer will yield more, Clarence Street and/or Geoff Scott may still be in business for all I know.

Clamont was indeed Clarence Street Cyclery house brand. Some of their frames were made by a few different Australian builders at different times, Geoff Scott being the most prolific of those. Geoff is still active today in the frame building scene. Clarence Street Cyclery also imported frames from Japan, the name I've heard mentioned most for those is Miyata, which is what I believe you have there. The serial number pictured seems to be a 1985 Miyata serial number.

The font on the decals looks a lot like what was used on the mid 1980s Miyatas. The "Made in Japan" decal looks identical.

Based on the tubing decal style, country of origin decal style and serial number format, my leading candidate would also be Miyata, in which case the serial number indicates weeks 9-10 of 1985. The component section is typical of an entry level sports model, roughly equivalent to a Miyata 100 or 110.

Miyata introduced their triple butted tubesets for the 1985 model year. The 100 and 110, were upgraded from plain gauge CrMo in 1984, to triple butted CrMo for 1985. However, it is not surprising to see double butted CrMo still being offered as as a slightly cheaper option for contract manufactured bicycles.

Progress converting the mixte to a cruiser. Frame cleaned and waxed. All bearings serviced. New UN55 bb, YBN chain & chinese narrow wide ring. Hose clamped on stop for the thumbie. It is 6 speed but the derailer won't index. In friction it works ok.
The rear wheel was badly out of dish so I re-spaced the axle.

It's a Sansin hub.
Is the wobble related to the wheel being out of true? It was a lot worse before and I will do a bit more zip tie trueing.

Yeah that's what I was thinking but then i looked it up and saw some stuff about it meaning the threading on the hub was machined wrong.

also a common symptom on five-piece rear hubs when the swaging of the flange to the barrel works loose

not an issue here of course since hub shell is one-piece

Got the rear wheel pretty true. I think the freewheel wobble is all good.
So finished, except grips. I think i'm gonna sell it, so the new owner can choose em.
