Listed on marketplace for $100.00, I had to race to get this one. It was being sold alongside an early Dawes Windrush which was only $10.00. Someone used Venmo to pay for the Dawes before I got there. It was only a 15 minute drive but I missed out on the Dawes. Miraculously, this one was still available. I cannot believe what has been available lately in my area for so little money. A few weeks ago I bought a 1972 Gitane Tour de France for $100.00, today lightning struck again. The bike is in great shape and is equipped with Phil Wood wheels; Campagnolo Nuovo Record brake calipers, derailleurs, crankset, headset, bottom bracket, and bar end shifters. Everywhere I rub the dirt and grime away reveals a frame and paint in great condition! I’m not sure when I’ll get around to building this to suit me with all the projects in the queue but here are some photos. Derailleur date is patent 81. Serial number is hard to read but as best I can tell 030667. Perhaps someone knows the date?

Wow! Does it fit you? Looks like a 22-1/2 or 23-inch(?).
Those Phil hubs look like 1st-generation parts. Be sure to loosen any quick-release skewer that's holding a freewheel remover tool in place as soon as the freewheel cracks loose, otherwise as I recall you might cause the center barrel to move relative to the right hub flange.

27" rims on yours. Mine is from the Marlboro era a few years later, and seems made for 700c (though either wheel size can work with short-reach brake calipers since these bikes were built for fender clearance).

The Special in this size range has 73-degree angles and gives an exemplary smooth ride even with narrower tires I've found.

Not as bad as the bike I bought and rescued that had thumb shifters and ape hanger bars, and a mattress saddle.

Super deal! It will turn out very nice once it is all cleaned up. Here is what a $75 Holdsworth Professional looks like (before and after restoration) that I too purchased in the MSP metro area. There must have been some shop selling them in this area many years ago.

I appreciate the advice on removing the freewheel, these are my first ever Phil hubs. It does fit me but it’s getting near the bottom of my range. I haven’t decided on a build yet but the Twin Cities annual bike swap is tomorrow so I’ll see what else I can find.

Be very very careful cleaning up the hub barrels, the Phil logo is not durable and will rub right off.

Just measured it. It’s precisely 23”, so about 58 1/2cm. It’ll fit me quite well.

I went to the Twin Cities Bike Swap today and found a few pieces I needed for the Holdsworth.

This 1973 Brooks Pro should look nice.
I also found some Campagnolo levers and reproduction hoods.

Nice work on that one! I'm in Omaha and found a Holdsworth Professional for $20 at an estate sale few years ago...it was too big for me so I ended up selling it, which was a bummer. Really wanted to keep that one.

It was an amazing bargain but it’s really impressive how well the seller took care of it all of these years. He bought it new in the early eighties and it’s been sitting around unused for awhile now but he wasn’t clueless about the bike. He knew quite a bit about what he had and was kind of still attached to it. He was really happy to be selling to someone who appreciates it and can rehab it properly. I don’t know why the low price but $100 is all he wanted. We talked for a few minutes before I left and later he sent a nice message saying he was glad to meet me. When I’m finished rehabbing I’ll send him some pics and thank him again for passing it on in such great condition.

That that's how it goes sometimes. Basically this was a gift with a nominal pricetag. Mine was the same way -- the seller wanted it to go away. He checked up on it after that, and I met him again at French Fender Day a couple years later, where I showed him the bike, now a 650b Gugifacazione.

Mine is 1982 and came to USA thru an Irish intermediary, also a 58cm. This was my original build. But will finish its' 3rd 'upgrade' soon. A nice rider.

FB marketplace is a DISASTER for selling a bike, and a GREAT place to BUY bikes. I have several theories. Here's the first one.

There is no single category for bicycles. Sellers don't know where to list them, and buyers don't know where to find them. I have found bikes in about ten different categories, everything from "fishing gear" to "hobbies".

Now not all bikes for sale on FB marketplace are great deals, but there are a lot of them that are. Finding those listings becomes the biggest challenge.
