Axles and trailer hitch problems

Hi folks,

In a nut shell, I recently bought a bike trailer for my toddler, but I can't use it. I'm having problems attaching the trailer's hitch part to my wife's bike.

My wife rides a Women's Lithium Three Pinnacle, and the trailer is a HOMCOM 3-in-1 Foldable Bike Trailer. The problem is that the rear axle isn't long enough to accommodate the hitch attachment. Once you put the attachment on, there isn't enough thread left over, and the nut pops straight off. I've already taken it to a couple of LBSs, and they tell me I need a longer axle but they don't happen to stock them. I've also tried going to AOSOM (HOMCOM's company) with the issue, and they've not exactly been full of suggestions for what I imagine is a not uncommon problem with trailers.

I'm at a bit of a loss trying to figure out how long this new axle needs to be, and where the heck I can buy one. It's the type you tighten with an allen key, and I'm told its 5mm diameter. Any suggestions for what length I should get, and where I can get them?
