Touroica II ready to launch!
The terrific trio of myself, my longtime bike buddy Thor, and SquireBlack are busily prepping our bikes for a reenactment of last year's Touroica tour down the coast to Cambria. We will be meeting up in Woodside (between Silicon Valley and San Francisco) and making our way across the mountains and then down Highway 1 starting on Monday morning and finishing up on Friday. Then, after a day of rest, we'll be riding the Via Scallatore (formerly known as the Coastal) Eroica route. If anyone is interested in riding with us on the first, or ensuing days, let me know. Our daily destinations will be Costanoa (south of Pescadero), Asilomar (in Pacific Grove near Monterey), Ripplewood Cabins (Big Sur) and Ragged Point Inn (just north of Cambria). If anyone is interested in riding with us on any of those days, let me know and I'll try to set up a meet up point. Otherwise, we'll see a bunch of you in Cambria.

How steep are the hills to get from the start to the coast? First day is about 40ish miles I guess?

Note also that this is Touroica II. The terrific three are retracing the route we did on Touroica I, covered in detail in this thread. This might be an instant classic. There's something very compelling about riding down the California Coast.

I’m running a 13-30 freewheel with a 45-42 half step + stump-pulling 24T granny
Andrew’s Lygie has about a 44/26 double up front with about about a 9-28 8-speed cassette.
Thor’s Olmo was reconfigured at the last minute away from hard man gearing and is now running 52-42 up front combined with a 13-32 7-speed rear wheel borrowed from my Miyata.

Not much to add. Strong winds on day 2 from the W and NW, which were sometimes behind us, sometimes in our faces, but mostly had us sailing on a broad reach. Mostly great riding except for a shortish stretch of Hwy 1 into Moss Landing, which will not show up in any of the Photos.

Not sure what the issue, or what kind of freewheel is busted... I am in Santa Cruz (you just went through it) and could in an emergency run a freewheel down to you . I believe I have a 6 or 7 spd hanging about. Let me know, asap, as Big Sur is 2hr one way trip....
