1987 Rockhopper
I think I stole it.
It's complete, sans bars, pedals and seat, asking 120 for 2 bikes, I bought this one for less than half that. Made an offer sight unseen (except the offerup picture) based on the fact that it has thumbies. It's all deore with ancient MKS G5000 pedals (in good condition)
Pictures in a bit, after it warms up a little.
It's got the dorkdisk!!!

My specialized vintage mountain wheel collection is growing
I have a set of x28's now to go with my sets of x23's, bx23's x25's and bx25's
Still looking for a gx23 front to match my gx23 rear

my favorite years for Specialized. The golden years for sure. Everything they had made for them was a hit back then. Nice score, now make sure it is ridden!

I bought that same bike (exactly) in late 1986 from City Bikes in Sacra-tomato. I still have it but it has since been repainted. Yours looks very original with it's Bio-Pace, that stem and brake levers that are sized for a motorcycle! Keep it original, there aren't many left out there!

I was thinking this was a rider, but maybe continue to distribute the wear across multiple bikes instead of just it.
This one came from Livermore Cyclery, not too far down the road from Sacra-Tomato (In the voice of Dr Donald D. Rose K.F.R.C.)

Nice score. For me it's the little things like the color-matched stem. You're on this forum so you don't need anyone telling you how well-made and easy to work on Rockhoppers are. And don't believe the negative hype on the U-brake--when set up properly they work great! Happy riding!

Looks to have been built by Giant in Taiwan. I'd recognize that style of drive-side dropout whose slot is shorter than the welded-on outer plate anywhere.

My 1995 RH in pristine condition was $75 with a 4-bike Thule carrier included. I had a new stem installed to shorten the reach and put Schwalbe 1.75 Land Cruisers on. Haven't ridden my other bikes since. I really appreciate its versatility.

These have/had a light goldish colored stem.
I gave one to a mutual friend and he had it promptly stolen.
I use mine as a grocery getter with a rear rack & Wald folding baskets.
Upgraded to 9 speed w/ Shimano EF-65 trigger shifters and 165mm cranks so my knees don't cry.
Just incidentally caught both while taking a pic for another purpose.
