Surly LHT and Nice Rack Light Mounting
I have a well loved and well used Surly LHT, with Nice Racks. I have a new job that regularly means I have to ride in pitch darkness and so have built the Shimano DH-3N70 dyno-hub that has been sitting in my shed for 3 years into a wheel.
For practical and aesthetic reasons I want to mount the lights low on the front rack, rando-style. To reduce the shadow of the front wheel I will use two headlights. My question is this, do you know of any mounting system that will allow me to do this?
For illustration look here https://www.vanillabicycles.com/frames/randonee/2/

Many thanks

isnt there an eyelet right in front? I seem to recall there is...front and center. just use that with a single light.

This is what I do with a Cygolite,
Topeak BarXtender,
and Paul Gino mount,
Works very well. I attach the Gino to the forward facing Nice rack brazeon.
Puts the light out forward of the bike.

So you attach the BarXtender to the Gino and mount your Cygolite to the BarXtender?

Piece of wood about the diameter of a broomstick handle about an inch long on a long bolt with a few nuts and lock washers. Photo shows a quick release light bracket installed on the wood. In this case the hole in the wood was drilled intentionally off-center so that the light could sit a bit lower and have a center of gravity lower than if the hole was drilled thru the center of teh wood.
Nice rack not needed for the mount used above, but if you only use the top of the rack and no panniers, this would work with the rack. On my Surly rack, I have cut strips of innertube rubber about 3/4 inch wide and the length that I needed that when I wrapped it around the front horizontal bar on the rack, it was about the diameter of a handlebar. Then put handlebar light mount on that. Wrap it tight so it grips the rack bar well and does not rotate. Sorry no photo of that option to attach.
