i'd been leaning toward the masters field. not sure i want to do KSR in the 1/2 field--sounds sketchy. hm. thoughts?

I would not have speculated. I'm working the race. There's a social media policy for officials, even though BF isn't really, it's the point.

P/1/2 is stacked with Canadians, Cat1's, and JPow.

i watched Jpow miss the break yesterday. he was working super hard to shut down the gap up juniper swamp, though he didn't ultimately make it.

stacked field doesn't scare me so much. stupid field does.

i read your post a 2nd time and don't really get how it makes sense (why not race p12 since i'm , but it's only 9am for me, and i'm still sleepy.

p12 sometimes winds up with people doing stupid things for 14th place for an upgrade point.......

i have no experience in the 1/2 field but the only "sketchy" part of KSR is the circuit race finish. if you're not contesting to sprint, roll in in the back. other than that there isn't much that I would consider sketchy. the RR finish is uphill so it's really just a fitness contest.

thanks! i appreciate the perspective. a buddy did the p12 last year and said there were crashes along the way -- some corner on each lap before the sprint. were there hot-point sprints for the p12 race only?

maybe his experience was an outlier.
what's your take on bound brook?

as for the latter part....i've had my fill and time to move on.

There's nothing to fear about that field. If you want to avoid crashes, don't do Somerville.

I love bound brook. But my wife stresses over it because my elbow, and burning a holiday weekend to race doesn't work for me anymore.

You go down a steep descent at like 50mph and there's a 90* right at the bottom. It's really not sketchy, though I did see a couple of crashes there last year. I guess guys overcook and wash out, but it tends to be single file there so they slide out of the way.

To expand on this: you do the KOM, which immediately gives way to a feed zone. You take a left out of the feed, a right, and are on a downhill. There is then a 90 degree turn to the right that is indeed fast, but even when I did the race in the 3s there was never anything to worry about. In the wet you might want to be careful but it is nothing that worried me in any year I have done this.

Show-up and partay. Let us create a break of BFers, and ride off into the sunset so we may merrily eat pancakes.

Battenkill is an awesome race, and even though I did not do as well as I was hoping, I had a super fun time! We need more categorized road races with some gravel and dirt thrown in to the mix.

Dieter, thank you for a great race this weekend and please reconsider dropping the pro/am format going forward!

could someone who has done either or both of Tour of Pitman and Mount Joy Road Race comment on what i should expect. In particular, i'll be using the race as "tune-ups" for a stage race the following week, mainly for the heat adaptation when riding 2+ hours. So if things get overly sketchy, i may reconsider. I wasn't particularly thrilled to see the shenanigans that went on at Farmersville as there were so many yellow line violations, etc.

Also would appreciate comment regarding Riverton Crit

pitman is fun but basically a big crit. basically flat (i think there's one hill on the backside but it's nothing significant) with mostly non technical corners (i remember one kind of tight corner but i did it years ago so i could be wrong).

I'm planning on doing Pitman this year. It's a short course (~3mi) with two little kickers. It's a pretty fast with a bunch of corners (one being a fast downhill into the finish). Cool race set in downtown Pitman.

I haven't done Riverton Crit but I've only heard good things about the race (eg: nicely run, cool town atmosphere/environment, etc.).

Just contacted promoter of Jersey Devil. Cat 3 race is apparently 13 laps at 57 miles. That's quite a bit of climbing (a category 4 hill each lap). Looking like i better clean up my diet
