Active Duty USAF, 1991 to present, on my way to 20+. Work usually makes it tough to impossible to be a rider, but the staff job I am in now allows lots! So, I am back in the seat after a 5 year break, and loving it. I am planning for a metric and full century this year, and maybe even a new bike to replace my semi-ancient Trek 1000. My wife just got her first bike, a Specialized Dolce Elite, and may be joining me on the bigger rides someday.
Anyone else here from Oahu HI??

I'm late joining the Army (39.5 years old was the cutoff (without a waiver), and I turned 39 after boot camp this summer), but I'm excited about the possibilities. If avian influenza lives up to the hype, I should be pretty busy (PhD on that virus, and graduate with a DVM in 2008). If not, I'll help keep the military's companion, working, and food animals healthy.
I cycle to and from classes 4-6 times a week (~13 miles each way)

Amazed how many of the USMC folks mentioned Iwakuni. I love riding here in Iwakuni. USMC here, active duty, Iwakuni, Japan.
Always looking for more riders around here. The guys at "the office" won't ride with me when I tell them I ride double and triple digit distances. *mumble*

PS, Navy and the Guard are tied at 7! It'll be interesting to see how the numbers change throughout the day.

I'm an Army civilian employee, does that count? I have PCS'ed twice and I do about one TDY trip a month. Mostly I travel to non-Military locations like St. Louis or Seattle but I have spent some time at Ft. Sill and Ft. Knox. I even brought a bike with me for an extended trip to Ft. Sill once, but was so busy I only rode it once. Offhand I'd say the riding possibilities are better at Ft. Knox.

Sgt Fowler - 5'8", dark green, glasses...built like a tree. Meaner than a junk yard dog on crack. His first name was 'Sir'! He seemed to think I liked to eat dirt. I never told him I liked dirt?!? I can take a pic of my platoon photo and post it, if you think that's him.

If you get a chance to get to Vandenberg AFB, CA, do it. It's located on the central coast between Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo. I was station there for 7 years and the riding is awesome.
Not only are there miles and miles of riding on base there's excellent riding off base -- the same area US Postal/Discovery trains near Solvang, CA.

Active duty Marine, 16 yrs. Currently serving in "Navy Hell" on Coronado, 4 months away from getting back to the Marines up in Miramar. I rode a ton over in Iwakuni, couldn’t stand the roads/dirt in Yuma and usually packed the MtBk up to Julian to ride for those years. Loved Quantico and Prince William Park, but I liked the trail running there more than the biking. Back on a road bike for the first time in a while here in SD. Had the equivalent of a "Benjo bomber" over in Al Asad for 6 months, but those miles were some of the hardest Looks like I will be reaquainted with the place in a few months.

For all you Marines, here's a couple of photos from a ride I did from Hilton Head the day after Thanksgiving....
You of course have fond memories of this place:
My Dad's grave at the Beaufort National Cemetery (attached photo taken in Korea 1951; age 19):
See this post for the complete ride report....

I have a friend in the Marines that I got into cycling...
He is much stronger physically than me so he dissed me on the first day out
I have gotten better and I can give him a run for his money, but he still dessimates me in anything else(running, swimming, hiking, etc)
He said he is going to Iraq soon
Good luck guys and keep on riding!

Navy LT, currently in New Orleans. I'm from here, so I'm qualified to say this is the worst city for cycling. I have to train on base unless I want to drive 30 minutes to one of our only 2 routes to ride. Also, sucks when you get pulled over on base for not stopping at stop signs. Oh well, I probably get stopped a couple times a week, but since there's no fine, I keep doing it. How can you train when you have to stop at stop signs??? You can't. Can't wait to move...will be going to NAS Atlanta at the end of the year.

Army. '99-whenever they kick me out.
No need dropping a 201 file here. Just checking in. I ride mostly the GW/Mount Vernon Trail, Custis and W&OD. If youa re in the area pm me, we'll set up a ride.
Oh, and Go Army, Beat Navy.

Active Duty Navy! 18 1/2 years so far and I can see the light at the end of my tunnel! Started cycling about a year ago and three bikes later, the guys that got me started can't keep up. I blame it on the old school lead weight of a bike I started on. WHAT A GREAT TRAINING AID!!! Ride a lead weight for a while until you get your legs and can almost keep up on the flats...then upgrade to some new high tech lite weight machine and FLYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!

Marine Corps, 1990-1994, 0311. Used to run a lot. Started riding about 6 years ago because of knee pain. Cycling seems to hurt less, but still burns off the beer calories. I'd like to say thank you to all of you still serving.
