Mostly Shimano 105 components all around.

From this thread - https://www.bikeforums.net/classic-v...ix-purple.html

and the "7" in the SN, it appears to be a 1987?....
Yes, it's a 1987 Fuji Roubaix in the Glory Blue colour option. The S/N indicates February 1987 frame manufacture and the Shimano New 105 component group was introduced for the 1987 model year.

1974 Fuji Special Road Racer

As found in original condition with its Fujita Belt saddle that included a stamped circle centered at the rear of the saddle, with "Fujita Approved" within the circle.

Serial number K9K00694, which is November 1974 production.

Finished today. Shakedown ride tomorrow.

It's pretty in its simplicity.

Based on the serial number, in conjunction with the description, it should be a 2003 Taiwanese manufactured, entry level hybrid bicycle. MSRP $299 US.

Fuji Sagres Questions

Hey all, I just recently received what I assume to be a fully original Fuji Sagres for free from someone and I'm trying to get some information about it like what year it's from and the original selling price for the Sagres model. From referencing this thread and Fuji catalogs, I gathered that the serial number (SJ316624) means it was made in October 1983, but the handlebars have rubber foam grips like a 1985 model instead the cotton cloth in the 1984 catalog and the chain is HKK rather than a DID Lanner from the 1985 catalog. Any insight would be appreciated!

Hi everybody. New to this forum, and haven't biked in ten years since I was in a bad crash. I picked up an old Fuji Finest from a local seller for cheap to start riding again. I used this thread and other available info to date it. The frame and derailleurs (Suntour V GT) have no serials, which means approx 1971, but the 47-1 on the Sugino Mighty pedals (according to Vintage Trek site) puts this bike in 1972. It has newer tires and Dia Compe bar shifters, other than that seems pretty original.
Thanks to this forum for the help. I'm going to be fixing this up to look nice. It rides really beautifully and is going to get even better.
(There are pictures in my profile album, can't post them until I have 10 posts.)

Looks to be in pristine condition - mine has been around the block a few times... well, the mileage on mine is more like twice around the world...

Anyway, by looking at the pics, it looks like the only non-original pieces/parts other than consumables are the shifters, stem and pedals. Maybe the seatpost, but I can't see it all that well in the pics...

How do you like the ride?

Yup. I've always enjoyed barcons on this type of bike. The ride was quite acceptable. You know, confident handling if somewhat relaxed. I liked the gearing fine, as well. The nagging trouble was that it overlapped quite a bit with my tourer. So I sold it recently for $340. Put the original pedals back on for the buyer.

I thought that the Fuji America that I built last year rode a bit better. That was a great bike. Eh, sold that one, too.

Welcome to the forums. Your Sagres is definitely a 1984 model based on the following features:

1. Your frame is Black as used in 1984, as opposed to the Slate colour specified for 1984.

2. Your frame's tubing is the double butted VALite 414 used in 1984, as opposed to the triple butted VALite 1978 spec'd in 1985.

3. Your bicycle's rear derailleur uses a claw adapter to mount to a stamped dropout, as employed in 1984, as opposed to direct mount to a forged dropout with integral hanger, as seen in the 1985 catalogue.

The bar tape and chain may have changed spec after the catalogue was issued or they could have been changed by the previous owner, as both are consumables which are frequently replaced due to their relatively high wear rates.

The America had better tubing than the S-10s - so there's that... I always wanted one of those...

Welcome to the forums. I believe that this is the first Fuji that has been reported as not having a serial number. Regardless, I can personally vouch for the accuracy of Japanese Imperial Calendar date codes as used by Sugino and reported on the Vintage-Trek website. Thank you T Mar for this thread and information.
On very close inspection this evening, I found the serial stamped vertically on the side of the downtube and barely visible. K7AU1810 (or something) so it is indeed 72.
I have added a picture to my album if you're curious.

A noob with a fuji absolute

Howdy!

I bought a bike a few years ago, without knowing anything about it. I'm too new to post pictures apparently, but I was hoping to figure out the year, or anything really. It's a fuji absolute, and the serial number is F7016699 (it does say made in Taiwan). The one thing about it that looks different from some other bikes, is that the bar runs from the handlebars straight down to the back wheel. It also has a sticker saying it was special designed chrome molybdenum 4130, exclusively for fuji America. The handlebars say hsin lung. The brakes say dia-compe or suntour. Let me know if any that is helpful, or if I can give you any more information.

Welcome to the forums. Your Fuji Absolute is a 1987 model, contract manufactured by Fairly of Taiwan during January 1987. It is an entry level model, 2nd from the bottom of the adult, road line. The colour is called Hana Blue.

The frame style is known a "mixte". The dual mid-stays extending from the head tube to the rear dropouts provide rigidity similar to a men's diamond frame with the step through mounting convenience of a traditional ladies' frame. Originally marketed for women, the style has developed a unisex status, being popular with older males who still want to ride but have lost the flexibility to swing their leg over the saddle of a traditional diamond frame.

Two serial numbers?

It doesn't look like we have much on 90s Fujis so figured I would share.

I have what I believe is a 1991 Mt Fuji LTD with two serial numbers. One goes across the width of the bottom bracket and reads 5C026. The other runs parallel to the bottom bracket cups and reads F1048082.

Was the frame partially welded up and then finished by Fuji? I can't think of another reason why there might be two serial numbers.

Yes, it's a 1991 model. Your frame was contract manufactured by Fairly of Taiwan in April 1991. I don't think that the 2nd number is an additional serial number but possibly a production code to facilitate tracking and prevent mixing of orders.

In 1991, the Mt. Fuji Ltd. was 4th in a ten model ATB line and had an MSRP of $775. Despite the line-up position, it would be considered lower, upper end on the basis of price, tubeset and components. It may seem strange that a Deore XT model would be 4th in the line-up but that's because the top two models used titanium frames and the 3rd used Tange Prestige. FYI, the colour scheme is called Meteor Blue.

It's been awhile since I've added new numbers to my Fuji history. A 1974 Newest that will eventually be a new entry on my Fuji blog. Interesting serial numbers, very low.

How so? I wouldn't call the 10,037th frame produced within a month to be a low serial number.

Sorry, I should have clarified that. I seem to attract Newest from the early 73-74 time period. With the exception of one, every example's serial number has been in the 10-xxx series. My highest was 10110, my lowest was 10001. So 037 isn't the lowest in my group, but it's lower than 10110.

I thought it was cool that hwheel72's example was one digit off but made it a different location. Am I reading that correctly?

Cheers,

Scott

They were made in the same location and year but roughly one month apart. K9J10036, was actually made later than K9I10037. The former was the 10,036th frame manufactured at facility 'K' during October (code J) of Showa year 49 while the latter was the 10,037th frame manufactured at facility 'K' during September (code I) of Showa year 49.

In other words. the frame numbers are not applied sequentially throughout the entire year but only for a calendar month. When you start a new month the sequential number resets to 00001.

My September '74-build ('75 model year) S-10S is K9I00300 (Note that is also the capital letter i )

Have we figured out which manufacturing facility was 'K' yet? Kuwahara maybe?

Fuji Opus III date

I'm cleaning up a Fuji Opus III, the serial number is J347.

I've tried to decode the serial number to verify the date and I think it's late 1983 (maybe October?), but I'd value the insight from someone with more knowledge on this.

I'm a new forum member and can't post pictures yet. Thank you for any assistance.
