Any Almonzo 100 entrants from C&V?
Hey there gluttons for punishment...
Anyone else heading to Spring Valley tomorrow? I'll be there on my Lemond Poprad slugging it out with the 103 miles of gravel and the occasional stream crossing. Looking to be a cool start to a nice day.

That looks like a nice adventure and a bit of a challenge.
How do you ride a century as a leisurely cruise? At 12.5mph moving average it will take 8hrs, not counting stopping time. I guess it depends on how you define leisurely.

I think my first D2R2 (~100 very hilly dirt miles) was a little over 10 hours of riding time.

Back home, so didn't get to partake in many post ride festivities (sick kid, almost didn't go...)
It was my first Almonzo, a learning experience. Overall not too bad at 6:50 elapsed time with no crashes or broken equipment.
I lined up with the 8 hour crowd and immediately realized the error when the ride started. The first 50 miles went really fast. It took almost 30 miles to finally fall into a group that we rode up to mile 70 at the pace I wanted. Not knowing the course, I thought it would be immediate tough climbs that would have me falling in with a natural pace group sooner. But, it was flatter than I thought and I had to lead out some groups to tie onto faster groups (not that I was fast by any means, but I'd play it different next time). My altimeter told me 6379 feet of climbing in total, but it didn't seem like quite that much given all the rollers. There were about 5 tough climbs.
The mile 80-90 section had some awful soft gravel, as did Oriole hill. I rode up a third of that, then realized that my spinning rear wheel and tweaking left quad were probably signs I should get off and walk. It is a hill that has to be experienced to be believed. Got back on after the steepest part. And the rest of the way no problem. Shook the man's hand, checked out some of the rubber at the Challenge tires tent, then got on my way back home given my spouse had a tough day also with a sick kid.
A little C&V represent, with two guys sporting old fuji touring frames, and some custom lugged frames found on the ride.
I'll do it again. Some pics (not good ones, but some pics).

Mile 70 "Elvis impersonator serenades you" and offers Hamm's beer (a siren song after 70 miles)
Handshake at finish line (not me)
Dirty bike post race (helmet and hydro pack etc)

Ooh, well done! 6:50 elapsed time? Total or moving? I'd have a hard time doing 100 under 8hrs total, under 7 moving. Bravo!

That was total. The fast guys can do it around 6 hours flat.
