Enjoying this build thread. I hope it motivates me to build up a '68 Schwinn paramount I picked up last year. It has the 610/750 Weinmann center pulls as well.

Testing brake reach front
Testing the reach of the Weinmann 610 on the front. Had to extend the shoes out all the way to fit! Lots of clearance on this frame...
Using DT Revolution double butted spokes - they are really light but strong.

Rear brake clearance check
Built up rear wheel now, checking clearance on the Weinmann 750.... looks like it won't need to adjust all the way out....

Are the DT spokes née production?
for a while the flange capacity was modified to make them too big for vintage hubs.

Yes, these are current production, got them from wheelbuilder.com. These seem to be a good fit. I used to buy spokes regularly from yojimbo on eBay but I think he had a bit of trouble during the height of coronavirus....

Schwinn Approved.....
I have seen conflicting evidence on the "Schwinn Approved" components for this year Paramount. I am pretty sure that the original tubulars on the P-13-9 were likely Weinmanns, and the Schwinn Approved (Super Champions) came later. However, since the entire impetus for this build came from an accidental purchase of a single NOS "Schwinn Approved 330" rim, I decided to go with that. Carrying on with that theme, I've decided to replace my Weinmann branded 610/750 brakeset with a "Schwinn Approved" set. No difference, but doesn't it give you peace of mind that in 1971 Mr. Schwinn may have approved of this brakeset?
As found... a little crusty....
Cleaned up a bit, with Koolstop pads....
Mr. Schwinn would most definitely approve...
Only at Schwinn, they required Weinmann to add a safety sleeve to their brake pad holders to ensure both ends were covered, so they would not slip off....

the shop I worked for faced a lawsuit along with the bike importer, from a customer who claimed her bike was unsafe as the front tire could drop through the parallel to the road storm grate and was not advised about that specific hazard. As a result of that the city did weld in cross tie straps perpendicular to the roadway afterward.

Patent Campagnolo 52, not quite on the money as it does have a pin...

Rear derailleur - Eroica
Well, my latest thought is I am considering taking this bike to Eroica if I can get it ready by then. I found out in 2018 these knees are way too old to go with 52/42 x 14/28, so I would need to use my 14-34 SunTour, and there's no way my NR will work on that. So, this monstrosity came in the mail:
In good shape, plenty of bling, but....
This thing is a boat anchor, almost a full pound!
Also, I think this thing needs a claw as the top bolt does not mate with the dropout.... any ideas?
So, I decided to go "off-Campy" for this purpose, and my parts bin yielded this, which I think came off an old Grand Touring I had...
I think the date code on this is 1975 (RJ), so a little further out, but period-is correct?
Looks like it should work with the 14-34
Swapped in a set of SunTour sealed pulleys, a nice improvement over the original pulleys...
Cleans up real nice, I think this might work if I can get this build together by early September...

Getting closer on this build; I might just be able to make Eroica on this thing......

Now have the "Schwinn Approved" Weinmanns...
I only ride tubies and have found the Challenge Elite Pro to be well made and durable. Going with a 27mm wide on this build, in case I take it to Eroica...
Now have the correct front Campy, with no clip...
On the fence about this Gran Turismo - we'll see if I can get it to work and shift well.... if not I think I will go with the Suntour VGT Luxe

Well, the build is now complete, and I plan to take this bike to Eroica next month. Need to get it set up right, tightened, adjusted, then go riding and see how it does....
This came today - the final piece of the puzzle, a rear brake cable....
Original Weinmann hoods, they're a bit dried and cracking but still fairly solid...
Brooks Pro...
The Gran Turismo (aka Boat Anchor) actually seems to work pretty well, despite all I have heard, but we'll see how it does on the road. ..
NR pedals with toe loop, Binda Extra straps, Christophe clips and yellow REG buttons...
All put together...
