The secret for him is to avoid getting the electric mobility scooter. My step father-in-law had a couple of strokes, but could still walk around the house. The brilliant assisted living counselor told him to use his scooter, instead, and now he is bedridden. Exercise is the fountain of youth

Oh that is so sad. When my mom (age 80) went home in January after 3 weeks in the hospital (severe lumbar radiculopathy pain), they sent a walker to the house. Even while she was in the hospital, she could rise from a chair like a 20-year-old, thanks to the exercise she's done for years which kept her arms and legs strong. She regained her strength very quickly (did I mention she's 80?) and never used the walker.
