Tasteful additions of Color to new ride?

I loved the component build on this bike (for my price range)and also that it was understated in the looks dept. but it was a bit too understated. What do you think about my Color additions to spice it up a bit? And of course put some “real” pedals on there and took off the lbs junk pedals. The Marin grips it came with were actually really nice but I wanted to be matchy matchy. Pedals and grips are Deity. Fox decal kit direct from fox. I think the decal I put on the Down tube looks out of place and may remove it. Can’t wait to actually ride it. Still lots of snow here and at home with my sons cold he so graciously gave me.

Stock pic first…

Anyway, what you all think? Too much?

Looks good, and not "too much"! You could also add anodized stem spacers and top cap in a similar shade of blue.

nice bike, 'personality' over 'looks' has always gotten my attention...
I'm not much of a 'sky blue' kinda guy - but then orange grips and pedals might be mostly the same...
Light blue & Orange remind me too much of Howard-Johnson's

Your bike though... your 'like', that's all that matters
it'll look great with a bunch of dirt on it...

Very nice. Complimentary colors just enough to pop.

No, it’s not too much to my eye either; looks fine. I don’t think the orange/blue/black is my favorite palette, but the bike is the OP’s expression, not mine.

The front brake cable is ridiculously long.

Almost looks too good to get dirty! Almost.

I’d go a bit more with the cap and spacers in a matching light blue and a seatpost collar too. But no more than that. And definitely no colored cables!

There’s something off with that front brake line, BTW. You might wanna try turning the lever on the handlebar to bring the brake line in closer to the head tube. I wouldn’t want it to rub, but the line shouldn’t be curled out like that either. If a rotation of the lever doesn’t get the line into a better position, you might consider shortening the line.

Great color choice IMO.

Thanks for the replies. The pedals and grips show up lighter than they are in real life. Thanks for the ideas on other tidbits to change as well. May get a blue top cap but I have a feeling I may not end up with any spacers once I’ve been out a few times. Valve caps are cool too.

The color additions look OK. If it was mine I'd take off as many of the stickers as possible (but leave the emblem on the headtube). I'd go as far as to take off the "M A R I N" if it wasn't too much trouble. I've always liked a 'de-badged' bicycle to leave onlookers guessing what it is.

Why go for generic when you can go custom. Some examples that they’ve done for me:

Not crazy about the color, but I will say an excellent choice of pedals. Deftrap, right? I think those are about the best design out there right now (like the TMACs, but for 1/3 the price).

If it where my bike and I already had those tires on it (which look really good on that bike, BTW), I would look at PNW’s grips that come on a sort of brown sidewall color.

But this is your bike, not mine. If everyone had my taste in things, all bike components would be silver, and matte black frames would not exist (glass black is fine).

I saw that also, but didn;t comment... Thinking about though, it'd be better to untwist... this is twist in the hydraulic line.
Not sure if spinning the lever around the bar will help... I think you might need to remove the brake lever, 'untwist' and then remount the lever...
Don;t think I'd fool with shortening the hydraulic line - too much to do and get wrong... You could always use a small black wire tie, like what one gets on stuff like usb cables, etc... to loosely group the cable to another cable...
As for 'color', it's all good, if it's what you like...

Yeah, I wasn’t very clear about that. You can’t simply rotate the lever on the bar because the brake line would wrap around the bar. The implication was to remove the lever, twist it around (one way or the other) and remount to see if the line positions better. I forgot that many people might not understand that.

I definitely agree that cutting the line would not be my first choice, given the PITA nature of hydros. But, if repositioning the lever didn’t get it right, I’d cut the line if that’s what it took.

To me, it’s difficult to tell from the photos if the line is actually too long. I’ve had great success with a simple rotation of the caliper or lever to get brake lines into better positions.

Yeah the brake line is long but it’s not as bad as it looks. It bundles to the other cables nicely and naturally with no resistance, I just haven’t secured it yet because I was going to see if it falls more where I want it if I rotate the lever, as mentioned. Thanks all for pointing that out! I don’t think I will attempt to shorten it though. If needed I would take it back to my lbs but I don’t think that’ll be necessary.
Keep the comments coming, good and bad. The blue wasn’t my first choice either to be honest but with part shortages and not wanting to pay multiple shipping charges I kept it at one place and got the blue with free shipping.

Its a nice bike.

I would suggest replacing the white M A R I N decal with the same style decal in gold color ( old gold like the old GA TECH football helmet color from the seventies to at least the end of the century). Do both the M A R I N and Fox decals in gold color, keeping the same exact size and style of printing font and it would look great.

The white looks good, but it steals some of the black color's thunder, by having that white that really pops a bit too much. Full disclosure, I am probably the last person who should be making suggestions on color coordination.
