Thanks! That is pretty much what I was going for. Plus it can run 35mm tires with fenders if needed and use downtube shifters as well. I have a set of Dura Ace 10 speed shifters for it if I feel the need to change it up. The frame & fork weigh 6.07 lbs with an uncut steerer tube.

The crank, 46/34, I got direct from Sugino when the currency exchange rates were in my favor a few years back. I never knew you could buy direct from them.

Just waiting for the color matched stem to finish it off......

Leisurely ride today on a fairly tall, at least that I've come across, (22")vintage step thru Nishiki I picked up recently. Kinda cool, I think.

I'll be working on it this fall or winter.

A friend and I rode along the Puget Sound up and down from Des Moines to Pike Place Market for lunch.
We chose a flatter route back to Des Moines.

I've finally finished the `83 Trek 850 project that made me an outlaw in Iowa - dang speed cameras! Yeah, I was in a hurry, you would be too! I mean, just look at it:



Ticket received and duly ignored, naturally. If they can't be bothered to chase me down, they don't deserve to get paid. What a scam!

The ride down Simon's Ravine last night was a blast! This frameset handles more quickly than the rest of my 1st-Gen MTBs, and it's really noticeable with these fat Growler tires.



The light was a bit weird, the sun filtered through some hazy cirrus clouds. I had to take some liberties in Lightroom to get the exposure right on the bike. The river didn't really look like this:



Twiddling the dials in processing does produce some dramatic effects, though:



Mississippi Pub's Marina is beginning to empty out now. The bartender told me they only have 10 berths where the owners live aboard all year round:

It seems everything I've been riding lately I see Halloween decorations.

This particular location I pedaled past today had them all over his corner lot.

One of my thoughts was the expense.
Some of the people in this area are really in to it.

Not much of a ride took the Stone Grinder clunker cargo bike to do some yard fall clean up at the library. The stone grinder is a little bit of a beast smooth but a bit heavy with good handling fine for a short haul cargo bike.



South Park City is now closed for the season so I can get a clean pic with no people.

All hail the humble milk crate! I used to use these all the time on my motorcycles and scooters, but couldn't find one when I built the Beer Truck Bike. If you can swing your leg over it, they really do come in handy.

It's finally not summer in Portland, so that means it's Super Course time!



Apparently, it's snowing on Mt Hood (where those clouds are). Went from 80's and dry to 50's and raining. Nice. I had spent a couple of hours installing a triple and long cage rd, and dashed out the door without tools. "Not a good idea," I said to myself, but what's the worst that could happen? Well, after grinding up the hill in the granny, which was really nice, I went for the middle ring and felt a decisive slip. Not wanting to complete my ride in the granny, I pulled of at this turnout. I spent a few minutes looking for a tiny rock I could wedge under the limit screw, then thought, "Duh, stick in the parallelogram!"



Finished the ride in the middle ring, which was also really nice, but not before reading all of the graffiti on the electrical box I was leaned against. I've never seen so much graffiti without a single obscenity! Almost endearing.

It was almost a week ago, but I did get in a short 25-miler with my pal Jacob on my old fave, the Sammamish River Trail down to Marymoor Park and back to Bothell. I was in town for about 24 hours to pick up a rental, distribute a couple zero bikes, and bring the rest to AZ. Mission accomplished

I know a couple of people that All Hallows is their Christmas which is certainly not my jam as my son and Grandmother were born Dec. 25th but there you have it.

A fairly recent art piece was added near a trail I frequently ride on to honor the man for which the Dallas city park the trail passes through is named after, Anderson Bonner.

If you care to look it up his story is an interesting one.

On the art piece base is the word 'Sankofa'
and his image is on the art work which is a bird.

I looked online for the meaning of the word.
One source has this info:

"The Sankofa Bird has been adopted as a symbol of what Africana Studies strives to do. The word "Sankofa" can be translated to mean, "go back to the past and bring forward that which is useful." The bird is rendered as twisting its beak behind itself, in order to bring forth an egg from its back."

Spaghetti Legs 

After a relative cold snap, weather warmed up this weekend. Sunny and 70 yesterday but only bike riding was downtown to the farmers market. Got out on the Carrera for 35 today but not quite as glorious out. Good enough though! The recent cold maybe accelerated the leaf changing but still not too colorful out. They say this year colors won’t be as good because it’s been so dry. I’m pretty sure last year they said colors weren’t as good because it was too wet.

The pic of cows below: Yesterday my wife told me how a friend had related to her how cows will form a line and walk by one of their fellow cows when he/she dies. I expressed my doubt and we went back and forth on this a while as old couples do. I texted her the pic below today and captioned it “Cow Viking Funeral”.

Maybe gugie , our resident dairy farm expert, can weigh in on this when he is dried off, beer and burgered up after today’s Seattle ride.

I rode "RiTa" (R & T in caps because Trek called this a "Rough Terrain" bike in the 1983 catalog) again today. We rolled down the River-to-River Greenway and other trails connected to a section of single track around Dodge Nature Center. The single track was wonderful, carpeted in fallen leaves and pine needles.



And you cannot beat the light this time of year.



The trail infrastructure around here is really something else. We're lucky to have it.

Since this was a windy day, my ride planning could have been better. Our prevailing winds here are out of the NW, and I rode the usual way, thinking I would have my usual tailwind on the way home.

But today we saw sustained 17mph winds out of the SE, with gusts to 30, which gave me a headwind on the uphill return leg of the loop. That was challenging. I arrived home fairly exhausted, just in time to take Mrs. C out for dinner. Now, it's almost 7pm, and I've got a belly-full of spaghetti & meatballs. My eyelids are getting quite heavy as I sit here typing. I think I hear the gritty footsteps of Mr. Sandman sneaking up on ...zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Le Tour De Ham Views and Boos - Elmwood edition ride today. Today I rode my 1965 Schwinn Racer 3-speed. During the ride we visited Oak Hill Cemetery, Cemetery Knesses Israel/Cemetery Eamnu-el and Elmwood Cemetery. One hill in particular was a bit of a challenge for the old 3-speed, but I managed to crest it without walking. This time. lol.

A couple of short but beautiful rides this weekend, we’re at peak foliage here in the eastern Catskills. Mrs. Ascherer was a little dragged out by a very late Friday followed by hot yoga in the morning so we went to the smoothly paved western Ashokan trails.



Today I explored some local roads around our house in the foothills of Overlook Mountain. I’m glad to have the Sun crankset on our hilly terrain.

75 degrees in late October! First ride in 22 days - crazy work stuff lately. Rode 55 miles up to Lake Forest.

A key connector trail has been closed all year because they need to replace the bridge over Deer Path Road. It’s a Crumbling former rail bridge that is now used for the path and for trucks that service the power lines. You can see the fence for the trail on the first bridge.



The project was supposed to wrap up late fall 2022, so I decided to check on the progress. The bridge is gone, leaving a vast canyon between the two halves of the trail. By the looks of this, it’s going to drag out another year. Rats.



On the brighter side, pretty much peak fall color now and we’re getting lots of red, yellow, and orange.



I took advantage of the season and rode down into the Lake Forest beach. During summer, the entrances are guarded by surly teens tasked with keeping the riff-raff away.



Did I mention the fall color?
