I acquired one of these a few months ago. It's a 1999 Mongoose Pro RX 10.9 all-titanium, polished. Any fellow owners of these bikes out here? They were made for Mongoose by TST/Sandvik in Oregon back in the 90s to early 2000s. I would love to see photos and discuss these interesting bikes with others. Mine is equipped with mostly Shimano Dura Ace 7700, except for a Campy front derailleur. It had DA 7400 brakes, but I recently hunted down a set of 7700 brakes because I'm used to the feel of dual pivots and it better matches the 7700 cranks, shifters, and rear dr anyway. I haven't ridden it much yet because I haven't had a chance to change the rear cassette to a 12-27 (the better to handle the hills around here). And the tires are old and cracked, will be changing those soon too. Maybe I'll have some more miles on it by Spring.

A beauty for sure. My guess is that you will love the ride.
If the fork is original (looks like it is), just as a caution, I would inspect that fork periodically. Some of the early CF forks had issues, the original fork on my Calfee had to be replaced and I think the manufacturer was TruTemper (?). Mine was painted yellow, so the initial tiny crack at the fork crown was visible without much inspection. Those earthquaked California mountain roads can be tough on road bikes, my riding was in the SantaCruz Mts above Los Gatos.


As a side note, I picked up a lesser known Ti bike and have never regretted the purchase.
Expect no creds on a bike from a 2nd tier supplier.

I bought a similar frame direct from Sandvik. I believe this was right about the time when they were getting out of the frame fabrication business. Mine had a brushed finish and lots of nice details like oval tube shaping in a few spots, and nicely shaped chain stays, which is something not all Ti bikes had/have. I'll try to dig up some photos and post them later. I remember really liking the bike and it served me well. Kind of wish I kept it but building frames is one of my hobbies and I felt I should be riding one of my own. I've got a soft spot for Ti bikes though and wouldn't mind having another.

Thanks for the comments and the words of caution on the fork. It looks fine so far but I'll keep an eye on it. The bike has lived most of its life in the original owner's parents' garage, in storage, so everything is still in good shape.

I get a kick out of riding a nicely made machine that nobody has heard of, LOL

Wow, I think it's really cool that you build your own frames as a hobby. How many have you built?

I have a soft spot for ti bikes too, this Mongoose being my third ti bike.

Very nice, made back when Mongoose was making real bikes not the BSO's found today. I purchased a couple of the 2001 Mongoose Pro Triomphes Sandvik made mountain bikes for our 30 anniversary back in the day. Still have them and use on our annual trip to the North East and Atlantic Canada. Here's a shot of them on top of of the Parkman Mtn trail in Acadia National Park last summer. Enjoy your new to you Pro series.

I recently found a similar bike....1999 Mongoose pro, in very good condition..always wanted one....and came across one...at a reasonable price........then again, it doesn't matter what one paids for a bike.....as you can't put an price on pleasure. Anyhow, always been a huge fan of the early Mongoose MT. Bikes, aka ' ATB ' and their road bikes...before they were bought by Pacific cycle, who in turn was purchased by another company, hence the cheapening of the brand, where sadly, they are sold at Walmart, Target, etc.....anyhow, here's a pict of my mongoose ATB, and I'll try and get a picture of my 10.9 mongoose road bike..

Since this pict was taken, did a full tune up, new fenders, replaced the seat, and added racks to her...rides well...I found a similar one in Oakland,
which I bought for parts...I ended up taking the frame, soaking outside for an few days, in an tub full of coca-cola. took off the majority of the rust off
the frame etc...changed it over to single gear...added rims and fat tires...plus fenders, etc...neat little road bike..for my part of the hood...

Since my first post on this thread, I made some changes to my RX 10.9. I found a nice deal on a set of Rol D'Huez wheels. I have Vittoria Rubino Pro 25mm tires on them. I also swapped out the saddle, it now has a Selle Italia SL Flow.
