Stem ID....

Came off a '79 Holdsworth Professional, though with the rest of the components being a mix-and-match of Suntour & Campy I think it was purchased originally as a frameset. Bars with it are Ambrosio. No markings other than the length. Not really important, just curious what it is.....

Ah, never mind- I think it's also Ambrosio & the name has worn off....

for us trivia buffs: did Ambrosio transition to become 3TTT (Torino Tubi Techo or whatever the 3 "T"s stand for)?
I seem to recall hearing that story...
Nice looking stem and the "capsule" shaped divot on the quill that has the size cast-in was something many 3TTT stems also featured.

Makes sense as the bars are Ambrosio.

I believe that story was printed on Classic Rendezvous. A 1986 3TTT catalogue (see attached) states that the company was founded in 1961 by Mario Dedioniggi who had "collaborated" with Ambrosio for 20 years. I don't know the details of "collaboration but it sounds like he was heavily involved in the handlebar and stem department at Ambrosio. So, there is a tie through a person involved with both companies but it sounds like the companies were independent of each other. Certainly, both brands continued to be marketed concurrently and the companies are located about 150km from each other.

I'm hoping I'll be able to still use this stem when I complete the build- it'll be pretty close as to whether it's a bit too short.....
