I don't know the answer but since the RD appears to be modeled on the Campy Record I would guess that the answer is no. I'd also be concerned about chain wrap since the 36T ring will result in a max chain wrap of 29, three more than the spec of 26 I see on Velobase.That can usually be exceeded by allowing for a little chain sag in small-small which probably won't hurt anything. I'm not sure I believe that 20T chain wrap that juvela cites since you're already way over that.

Data point: Zeus dropouts, Zeus Criterium derailleur, 28T cog:



I had to play a bit with chain length and axle position, just like with Campagnolo Nuovo Record derailleurs and 28T cogs, but it works. The shifts might be a bit nicer with a smaller FW and the rear axle in a more forward position, but it works well enough for me. I would not hesitate to take this bike into the Tuscan hills.

Beautiful work = Stunning results. Looking forward to seei it up close at Cino soon. Probably riding my Stella, but just got a nice Zeus, my size, near100% Zeus components, but Universal brakes. Has a rare, Zeus triple but the 22 cog low freewheel still too high for my old legs. Its very narrow slots won't take the normal Zeus tool, or any other tried so far, so may substitute a different rear wheel with a bigger low cog and new chain. My decals look more like your old ones. If I can get it ready in time, may ride it Saturday. If I do, it will have brown or black bar tape. The red splash tape hurts my eyes. Don

Cino is only a couple of weeks away. Hard to believe..

We had a few details to sort out. First, He needs a bottle cage. The original owner had installed two REG cages, using clamps around the seat tube and dt. The seat tube cage had torn up the factory applied Zeus decal. Since we replaced the sticker, Thomas has opted not to have two cages. We just installed one, on the dt. The REG cages are kinda portly, so we used a Cobra(kai) part that is lighter. I just hope it holds a bottle in Montana..

I bought a nice 36t chainring for it, but that won't jive with 52t and a short cage Zeus derailleur. I have a nice Cyclone GT rd, and suggested using it for Cino. Thomas isn't having any of that(wants Zeus parts on Zeus bike). Fine. Suit yourself, 40t it is. I have my own problems to worry about on the big hill..

His Unicanitor saddle doesn't have bag loops, and he needs to haul stuff. We rummaged through the basement and found this nifty Lone Peak bag. It's in excellent condition and matches the bar tape very well. I'd guess it's from early to mid 80s. I just need to find some better bungee cords for the bumpy ride.

Finally, he's been riding it more. Thomas is a lot more comfortable with the downtube shifters. He likes riding a bike that's three and a half times older than he is. His friends parents and grandparents really like it(his friends, not so much).

I ordered some Koolstop Campagnolo shoes for it. Hopefully it'll stop a little better.

He's young, strong, and light, so the gearing he has might just work for him.

That front bag can hold another bottle, or he can do what I do on my Eroica/Cino rides with only one bottle position - use a small water bladder.

Thomas keeps growing! We may need to put out an APB For a 63cm Zeus frame...

Go Thomas! I carried just one bottle at last year’s Cino. That worked fine as there were nicely spaced opportunities to refill, including a superbly placed cooler on 9-mile hill.

also easy enough to carry extra water in a bottle in a Jersey pocket. I carried some little 16 oz nagalene bottles with water with Nuun electrolytes that way.

I won that Zeus seatpost in the Stowe race over Smuggler's Notch. Perfect timing. I bent My Fuji Pro's mediocre post on a frost heave I hit going well past 50 coming down. Good post. Significantly lighter than the Campy it was a close copy of. Shared that wonderful bolt access for quick and easy seat/position changes.

Update:

Well Thomas and Zeus made it back to Montana last week. Thomas rode two days of Cino on the white bike, and both performed admirably. He didn't need any low gearing, making due with a 40 front/26 rear. He made a bunch of new friends throughout the weekend, and got plenty of encouragement.

The only problem he encountered was a punctured water bladder in the front bag. Must of made contact with a multi-tool with all the bouncing around.

On Friday we had a real treat,, when the original owner showed up at the check in and bike show. Thomas was able to assist questions and hear stories about the bike.

So, in less than a year, Zeus has kinda gone full circle. After giving it a service and some elbow grease, it has a second wind. I am happy to see my kid take on this project and be proud of it. We still have plenty of Summer left here, so hopefully we'll get out for some great rides in the Cascades.
