Haven’t ridden in two weeks due to serious medical family issues. Spent a lot of time in hospitals providing patient advocacy. Note, ER’s and hospital staffing are very challenged right now.

Nice contrails over Flat Swamp on High Rock Lake. 60 miles of headwinds under blue skies but lower humidity! Also was suffering from dehydration from Friday. I walked 18 holes Friday morning, then after lunch spent 6 hours cutting up downed trees from a really bad storm which blew through Thursday evening. Not only high winds and rain but 2 hours of intense lightning.

It was 95 degrees, high humidity and I was dressed for running my chain saw. I was lucky I had on blue jeans. I actually knicked a hole in the jeans on my thigh after my arms and mind got tired. I was drinking lots of water and Gatorade but still lost a good 5 lbs of fluids.

Terrific post ride lunch from Eve’s Diner in Southmont…..fried pork chops, fried okra and pinto beans. The heart rate got a good workout today but probably raised up the LDL with all the fried items!!!

Father's Day is always a ride day but involves the family. My wife and I planned to ride a section of the Great Allegheny Passage from West Newton southward for about a 20 mile ride round trip. It was a beautiful day and I was mostly prepared. I'd gotten my gears and hydraulic brakes dialed in at the LBS the week and got the family sized bike rack all loaded up. My wife was complaining that she had had trouble on our last ride so I brought our electric pump and topped her and my son's tires up.

OTOH when it came my turn I screwed things up and the core of the tubeless valve on my front tire came out, completely flattening it and the bead came off the rim. Fortunately, I didn't get sprayed with sealant and was able to get the tire reinflated after about 10 minutes. The issue was that the electric pump uses a Presta adapter but fortunately I also brought along my manual pump which has an integrated Presta sized fitting that clamps on.

On the bright side, going into this the bead wasn't properly seated before (the tire had a slight wobble) but I actually got it seated better this time around.

That being said, I sent the family on ahead while I futzed around and only got about 17 miles in. I told my wife we're going to have to plan a longer ride in the future to make up for it.

Sunny, hot, and humid today. Just over 20 miles. Tomorrow is predicted to be hellish at 98 or 99 F, and I can't ride early. Then 80s and 70s, sunny, and wind under 10 mph for several days.

If I stick to a 10% weekly increase for longest ride of the week, I get to 79 point something KM on 7/30. Since my goal is 79 by the end of July, I'm happy.

Rode with a Carapaz fan yesterday and was shown some different hills (always good to find in Flatland). Kept up with the kid too, mostly, 😉.

24 miles, including the Vanderbilt Motor Parkway, a private roadway built in 1908 so the super wealthy could have a place to drive their new automobiles. Now a park.

Some days I’m quite happy that I can climb back up this hill with the gearing this old bike has. And other days I’m quite happy to walk it back to the top.

32.4 miles yesterday, which is probably my longest ride in June since 1991. Beautiful day - sunny, mid-80s, negligible wind. On schedule to build up to 79 (age+1) KM in the last week of July, my birth month. First ride with my 'new' (factory-refurbed) Edge 820. I juiced it up the night before the ride and forgot to turn it off, and I was shocked to find the battery at about 45% at the start of the ride. Afraid the battery would die on the ride, I let it sleep except for a dozen checks. It was pretty nice not having the data in my face during the whole ride. Alas, I juiced it up again after the ride, powered off, and it's at 97% today, so I can see the data all during the next ride, unless I have the fortitude to let it sleep.

My first post in this forum! Rode 51 miles with 2,200 ft of climbing in the Boston suburbs earlier today. I was on my 1986 Raleigh Grand Prix 650b conversion. Tomorrow I take off for a sub-24 hr overnight camping trip to a state forest about fifty or so miles from home. My riding seems to be in bunches like this lately (rode 25 miles yesterday on my Milwaukee Bicycle Co. single speed). Note: pic below is not from today but from early spring.

My follow up: Rode on Sunday 55 miles to camp at a state forest and then back yesterday. It was the hottest riding day of the year for me here in the Boston area on Sunday, and I was pretty cooked by the end. Yesterday was cooler and overcast, and it started raining a few minutes after I got home.

This morning I did a brief ride with a friend to enjoy some really nice weather. I was on my Milwaukee single speed:

Thanks! I had a very nice birthday, so happy to still be able to ride. This past week, we were riding our tandem on the Spirit Lake Hwy, which goes up to Mt. St. Helens. A friend took a few seconds of video of us going by with St. Helens in the background, but it's a .mov file and I don't know of a way to post it. This was our first time visiting that area and our minds were appropriately blown.

I turn 56 this week, so I wanted to get in a 56km ride. I did so today. Made it 57.8KM, riding a rail trail on my mountain bike.

Well, in the spirit of 50+, this morning I rode the bike below to undergo a colonoscopy. I was due (I'm 62, last one was at age 51), and everything checks out normally. Had a burger for lunch afterwards (after my wife drove me home)!

Occasionally I pass - going in opposite directions - or get passed by a couple on a tandem, and I get a flash of envy ... I wish my wife liked to pedal. In tandem looks like a great way to ride.

Yesterday I went through 2 hours in my dentist's chair, and I did not feel great today, but the weather was too great not to ride at all. I rode just about 15 miles today, making this the June with most miles since I started riding again 9 years ago, which makes it the most miles in June this century for me.

Fortunately this thread is not competitive. 15 miles may not be much, but it's better than 14....

Hi all. I'm 63 and ride mostly an all-rounder type bike (Velo Orange Polyvalent) set up kinda like a mountain bike, but ridden mostly on a mix on back roads, dirt and gravel. Also ride a 1984 Specialized Expedition touring bike and a 2001 Univega Modo Volare steel/carbon road bike (both strictly on paved roads). I also own a Niner MCR steel mountain bike (all rigid, no shocks and a true trail steed) which is a great way to mix up my rides. Additionally I have an all-steel Niner SIR9 single speed mountain bike, which I take on a morning loop of mostly dirt roads (with a few challenging climbs, made especially tough on a SS). But there's this PURE feeling of JOY when pedaling this bike. No shifting. Difficult (but doable) climbs. SILENT drivetrain... nothing but pedaling. It's a joy unlike any other, and something I will always cherish. If you haven't tried single speed riding, honestly I think you may be missiing out on something really special.

Today I rode for the first time in exactly a year, Cobble Hill, Brooklyn, down to Midwood. Not a huge distance (not quite eight miles) but it felt so good to ride again. Last time I was on the wheel, I swerved to avoid another rider and went down, severely road rashing my knee.

I have a pair of three speeds, a Windsor TimeLine that I had my shop add a Sturmey-Archer SRF3 to; and a Linus Gaston 3 with the same hub. Rode the Windsor today and I have to say, again, Raliegh had the right idea all those decades ago: A drop bar three speed is a wonderful thing.

Drank a few beers hit the pool and rode back. So 10 miles with a little R&R.
