The E serial indicates a 1970 build at Worksop - whether badged Carlton or Raleigh.
Your bicycle looks very much like the Raleigh Professional MK III which made it's debut in the US's 1971 catalog. I'd hazard a guess that your serial number is higher than that on my Professional MK I (E3215)

Somehow I missed this thread the first time around. I'm glad it popped up again.
I know the Raliegh serial number decoding is as close to accepted dogma as anything ever gets with Raleigh. It leaves me with a bit of a mystery though. I have what I have generally assumed to be a 1969 Competition.
The mystery is, the serial number says it's from 1967.
I bought this from a guy in Oregon. I have no idea where he got it. Is it possible Raleigh was selling Competitions somewhere in 1967?
