Tyres for a 1976 Fuji Sports 10

Hello,
I have found an old set of Schwinn Pro Circuit road bike tires that are 27 x 7/8” in size.
Any ideas if they will fit my Fuji Sports 10?

thanks in advance,
Paul.

Probably. They should both be 27" [630mm] rims. If you can check the sidewall for a size on both bikes to confirm.

That’s fantastic news, the bike came with no tyres on it just the rims. I’m going to pay the $20 for the pair.
Thank you Velo Mule.

The Fuji Sport 10 was an older model, or at least the one that I am thinking of. But, maybe Fuji recycled the name for a new model that has a different tires. Take a good look all around the rim. There may be an engraved marking of the rim size. This is often near the valve hole, but not always. Look for a manufacturer name and the rim size. If you can confirm that it is 27" order the tires. If you cannot find the engraving, get a tape measure and measure across the rim from one side, to the other. On my 27" wheel, it measures 644mm. Your measurement should be within 2mm of that number.

PBYO988 you could also go to your local bike shop. It might cost you a few dollars more than online shopping, however, you'd get the right size and no waiting or it to arrive. Kenda K35's that are 27" x 1-1/4" are popular with bike shops. That should work well and shouldn't cost too much either. They have a tan wall that should look right on your older Fuji Sports 10.

7/8" tires are VERY skinny for a '70s bike. Originally, your Sports 10 would have had 27x1-1/4 tires. (or 32mm if you think Metric.) 1-1/8"=28mm, 1"=25mm, 7/8"=23mm.
The Sports 10 was Fuji's entry-level offering, all steel (crank, rims, etc) so it was heavy at 31 pounds.

Thanks for the info. So the 7/8’s are going to be too thin for the rims perhaps?
Also I couldn’t find any info on the rims.

Bikes: Was Fuji and got my grails (Pro, Pro SR, Design Series, & Ti). Now I hunt 50's and older road bikes.

If the rims are original, I would think they would be 27", vs 700c. You can find fuji catalogs online, if you want to look. Of course, that is assuming the rims/wheels have not been swapped out.

I would not say the tires would be too narrow for the rims, but they are not what was designed for it. 7/8" is a racing oriented size. 1 1/4 would be more plush and what I would want to use for this bike.

Dear!!! I was going to sell it after I fixed it up. If the tyres are too dangerous for the next owner I’ll have to source some 27” 1 1/4’s from somewhere else. It’s a pity as the pair were unused and only $20.
Thanks for everyone’s help, I’ve learned a lot.

If you scroll to the right on that 1976 Fuji catalog page (actually page 20 of 22) , you'll see the component listing. It lists the rims as Araya steel, 27x1-1/4.

Ok I’ll go for it then. I just didn’t want them to pull off the rim while someone was doing a fast turn.
thx.
