2021 Cape Cod Rail Trail season opener.

OK, it's been a year now. We all have masks. Cleaning supplies are no longer a barter economy item. The vaccines are in distribution, some folks have had them already. And most importantly, there's plenty of toilet paper. A day late, sure, but let's get it out there:
Dennis trailhead off what used to be exit 9 on US 6.C&V themed but all welcome. Departure around 10 AM. Let's pencil in April 18th or 19th.

Ditto! That's also my birthday weekend. Perhaps I'll finally enact the plan of riding from home and meeting you all somewhere on the Cape.

One month out, weather looks like low 50s and sunny.

Hmm, my 2nd shot is scheduled for April 14. Figure a couple days of lying low, and I should be good to go on the 18th if this is happening.

I thought I posted earlier today but the note doesn't seem to be here. Oh well.

We haven't ridden the tandem but once in the last 12 months and that for just 10 minutes. We were hoping to start small, not run the 44 mile round trip on the CCRT!

Nevertheless, we may make it. Can't promise anything. I could take off on Monday but since I work for a British company they aren't in the habit of giving us Patriot's Day off. :-)

One caution though. Cape Cod has experienced a surge of covid recently. Eight or nine towns have been classified as high-risk this past week. It may be different in a few weeks but it is worth considering.

Ugh. 14 days to "flatten the curve" has become 14 months. Will this ever subside?

Vaxxed n Ready

All vaxxed up and ready to roll...
Think I’ll ride the PH11 I found at a Dennis thrift store, in honor of the starting point.

Unfortunately "flatten the curve" also means "fatten the curve".

Don't I know it.
Was riding this time last year and into July when I had a serious shoulder injury (not bike related) and subsequent surgery in August and months of PT. A little snowshoeing this winter and back on the bike the last 3 weeks with 150 miles accumulated so far. Riding more upright on the Falcon-Dove-Albatross or whatever they are, but hope to get on the drop bars soon.

appreciate the link, top. Before posting I scrolled through the first 3 pages and didn't see anything and assumed the worst. I'll be there. I am fortunate enough to have a job where I was able to get my first shot in Jan. I had no side effects at all after either shot but my co-worker was dragging for a good week.

I was in fact thinking Saturday, but Sunday works as well. I'll go with the consensus of the group.

Is this ride so demanding that your bike will be trash afterwards?

I'd love to make this but as hinted in my post above I'm on a slow recovery. Just yard work and fertilizing my little green acre on Friday pushed me back enough (arm muscle pain) that I elected not to ride this weekend. I'll be good in another month or so.

The ride is 44 miles +/- of former rail bed paved trail. Only hills are a couple of highway overpasses, I'm om recovery myself, L4-5 disc decompression 1 March.

Yeah but they salt every road surface down here, plus the salt blown into the air off the water.. Lucky to make back to the parking lot before it rusts out from under you.
I liked your take on my post, IsleRide
