So I wanted to buy a Vaya but my pocket book is thin. I came across a Surly LHT and its a 52cm. I currently own a Specialized road bike. 56cm bike fits decent. I have no idea about sizes in touring bikes but this would be in my budget after I sell my current one. The guy said he is 5' 11" with a 30 inseam. I am 6'1 or so with 31-32" inseam. Would this be even close for me. The head tube is also uncut.

I think it'll be way too small unless you like a lot of seatpost and stem.

I ride a 62cm road bike, but the 60cm LHT is plenty long for me. I could probably even go a size smaller.
There is a spreadsheet on the web where people entered their heights and their LHT frame size and their comments about fit. Based on that, I tested and purchased a smaller size than I originally thought I would get.

I am near your size (6'2" w/ a 31.5" pant inseam) and ride the 54 LHT. It's slightly small on me, the 56 would probably have been perfect, but I got a good enough deal on the 54 that I couldn't pass it up (although I do use a pretty long stem). The 52 will almost definitely be too small.

Wow 6'2" on a 54cm LHT? Fit is super subjective but I am in the 52 will be too small camp. I am 6' with a 30-31" inseam and ride a 58cm LHT.

I'm 5'10" and my 54" fits pretty well perf. I recently rode a 52 with a longish stem and it was pretty comfy too but I can't imagine someone your height liking it.

I would guess a 54 would be your minimum but a 56 would be better.

If you're 6'1", a 52cm frame is going to be waaay too small for you; you should be riding at least a 58. The tricky bit with Surly is that they measure center-to-TOP, not center-to-center; ergo, their 54cm frames are actually about 52.5. I normally ride a 54 or 55, depending on the geometry, and a 56cm LHT still fits me pretty well.

I did find a 56cm last night for $600 but its 2.5 hrs away over snowy mountain. They do not want to ship.

What's the top tube length on your road bike? I would compare that to the Surly - I found that the LHT is relatively long. My road bike is a 48 cm, and it feels a tiny bit big. My LHT is a 42 cm and it's perfect.

As most people are saying, I'm guessing that the 52 is way too small for you, but I would still compare effective top tube lengths. You're at the tall end of the spectrum, and there are 5 sizes bigger than the 52. If the 52 fits someone 6'1", then who is the 62 for?

As another data point, I'm 5'8" and prefer a(n effective) top tube length of about 57cm. (The 52cm LHT's is 54cm, so it's way too dinky for me! )

52 too small for you. Unless you ride with a very short stem on your 56cm road bike a 56cm LHT will work fine.

I'm 5'9" with an 84cm pubic bone height (as measured using Rivendell sizing methods). My main bike is a 54cm Surly LHT. 52cm seems way too small for a guy like you. Heck, 52cm seems too small to me when I look at it (shorter top tube and shorter stem? Eeek).
