Always wanted a fatbike!

Now I have one!

I picked up a ~2012 Sun Spider AT, sort of a cruiser fatbike.

I think it was someone's project, from the factory it had only a coaster brake & a 2 speed SA rear end. Someone installed (or most likely had installed) an 8 speed X-RD8 and a set of Avid BB7's. The SA has issues so I ordered an internal rebuild kit, I'll then rebuild the original to see how it works. Fun to ride so far...

Alleytom could you take and post a picture of the non-drive side on the rear? I'm curious to see what adapter plate or other was used for the rear disc caliper. Thanks!

Hokiefyd, I hope this helps, it's an adaptor plate that the caliper is mounted to, there is a raised portion that fits into the dropout to help align it and keep it from rotating.

Thought I'd post an update, in the last month or two I have gotten new hub internals, trigger shifter, handle bar & bar ends, pedals, seatpost, chain & stem and she's ready to roll, and let me tell you what a ride! She has rapidly become my favorite bike. I also swapped out the 22T chainring for a 32T, I think I'll be swapping the 22 back though, I don’t really use gears 6, 7 & 8 with the big chainring, and I like the lower gears for the few hills here. The nice part is the workout I get with 10 miles on the fat bike is like 20 on one of my other bikes, and I can literally go anywhere on it. I also think I'll replace the tires with regular fat bike tires at some point, the spider pattern is not so grippy on dirt hills...

GZ for your new bike.
Just an advice , replace zip ties with any brand of adhesive cable guide.
You can find online for cheap , for me they looks a lot better than the classic zip ties.

Most who actually ride a fat-bike fall in love in them. I let people try mine and they always comment that they are much more agile than that they thought they would be.
I'm not out there setting any KOM's, but I can keep up and enjoy every ride.

Did you get the internal rebuild finished? Any notes from the overhaul?

I ended up installing a replacement internal hub, but within a few months I broke a tooth on the 4th speed planetary gear, the RK-8 is really delicate, you can't treat it rough at all... I cannibalized the original internals and rebuilt the hub. The bike is great for cruising, but I avoid anything rough, and no steep inclines etc... This website helped with the rebuild: S-A X-RK8 internal gear hub

I bought my Pugsley as a replacement, I'm kinda done with IGH bikes for now.
