Addiction 2021.4

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Say what you want, it's friggin cold up there most of the year, so it's the north!

By the way, the government has it wrong like so many things.

I found the most accurate map of belts.

Speaking of maps, this book is really funny:

There is at least one newer edition.

We have a Cleator about 60 miles north of us. One of these days I should ride up there for an overnighter MTB bike camp ride.

Don’t know if posted this photo back in 2012. Monkey visiting a local cat practice. IIRC, he was 35 lbs. and not overweight according to the vet who posted this on Facebook.

It's cold here today. Frighteningly so. Ice on the roads this morning, then salted. Just like actual winter. Going to be 62 on Wednesday...?.... and rain..... wtaf?
I need to get back on the trainer regimen. Too tired from working 7 days a week. Another month or do of that. We'll see...

I'll try to remember to look at a photo when I get home. The day we rode to the Streator area was like a furnace. The tar used to patch cracks in the road was liquifying and splattering onto tubes, causing tiny stones to stick to the bike and tires. A few of us stopped at a school that was open on a Saturday for extracurricular classes to bum water. The teacher begged us to stay and speak to her group of kids. She wanted to show them that there were so many things one could do in life beyond the local community. We had close to a century that day and really didn't want to, but we did. The kids later wrote us thank you notes and mailed them to our rest day in Bowling Green, OH. I wish I had saved them. The teacher also included a photo taken outside the school. It may show the name of the school. I remember it was in the middle of nowhere farm country with lots of corn around.

Hell no, we don't want to be part of New England. If nominated, we do not accept.

Nope. If that map were accurate, much of the Sun Belt would be Can't Buckle My Belt.

Maine Coon. They can often appear larger because of their bushy coats, but 35 lbs. is big. My understanding is that they are pretty chill. Still, I would not want to piss it off.

Got out for a couple of hours in the dirt yesterday. This is the first time I've been on a bike twice in a week in a while. I'm definitely not going to set any PRs with my current levels of fitness and fatness, but it was good to be outside enjoying a warm afternoon.
