Bike Gloves alternative

It's pretty cool that they sell them individually, that way if you lose one you can just buy the one that you need rather than a whole new pair

for the padding requirement you need bike gloves, as a nose rag cotton knit gloves will do..
Maybe Pad the bars, no need to have it in the gloves , then..

Bikes: A few older US made Cannondales, a modern Soma Saga (no longer made, alas!), and one gifted crabon Specialized. Never enough.

My all time favorite gloves were the Sorbothane branded gloves of 30 years ago. No longer made, alas. Now I’m fond of VibraStop gloves from Superior Glove: https://www.superiorglove.com/en/goa...mpening-gloves. Originally purchased them for power tool use (such as sanders), and then had a minor aha moment before using them on the bike. Machine washable on gentle cycle and hang dry for the inevitable smell of daily use. Like them so much I ordered five pairs to keep in rotation. Only negative is the lack of a terry back for wiping sweat (and snot). I remove the Velcro straps as I find them to catch on everything. Order up a size, I should also note. They are thicker and initially stiffer than cycling gloves, but work wonders for tools and bikes.

I've been using Ironclad gloves for years (e.g. https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/...?ie=UTF8&psc=1). Now that I ride flatbars with Ergon grips I use the unpadded variety (half and full fingered) but used to use padded on dropbars. They last far longer than any bike gloves I've ever tried, can throw them in the wash, excellent terry cloth on the thumb.

Bike Gloves alternative[
I have previously posted:
I seek out those tan lines
Just wondering if anyone figure an alternative to cycling gloves?
Anyone find anything good from hardware stores that work just as good or better and are lesser price? thanks

There's a huge variety of purpose-made cycling gloves out there, some at extremely affordable prices...
It's perplexing to me why you can't just select something that's readily available and tailored for your application

I always wear gloves, especially on sunny days to acquire a distinctive, classic cyclist’s tan. In particular I wear gloves with a crocheted back for that“reticulated”tanning pattern, with the strap line.
It’s a variation of Rule #7 of the Velominati,
I was once asked if I am a golfer from that pattern, but I think golfers only wear a glove on one hand.

Tanlines should be cultivated and kept razor sharp.

I go through a pair of Mechanix Cycle gloves a year. I wear them for the knuckle protection but the palm surface wears out really fast. (hard pliable rubber over the knuckle area) You only have to have a limb whip your knuckles one time and you'll understand.

Cycling gloves are just an overpriced fashion statement, and there are plenty of better non-cycling specific alternatives out there...I have used weight lifting gloves, I have also used various types of work gloves which are similar to mechanic gloves, all of them work perfectly fine for cycling.
What do you consider better than cycling gloves for cycling, and why?

I've been using plain old Mechanix gloves for CX racing for awhile. No padding (which is a plus for me; YMMV), long-wearing, inexpensive, and available at your local HW store. What's not to like?
For road, I go bare-handed unless I'm racing.

This will protect your hands, be unique, and also be expensive enough to catch the eyes of the most jaded cyclist. Also good with dogs and aggressive drivers.

For me, I prefet the budget, no name, crochet back leather padded palm retro cycling glove. Always under $20.

I can't find the right photo at the moment, but this guy sometimes rides gravel in work gloves. If it's good enough for him...

Socks are way too tall, scary mustache. Definitely would not wave at him. Besides, he’d probably be moving much too fast to see it.

I would never, EVER wave back at a bike rider that was wearing hardware store gloves. But I have droped hamers at various hardware stores...
Pearl Izumi basic gel gloves are always selling cheap on Amazon and elsewhere, and being purpose-built, will serve the wearer well.

I loved the old Nashbar crochet gloves. Used to be about $6/pr on sale. Alas, they went away when Nashbar went under. But there are plenty of similar gloves on the market for $15 or less.

A lot of gloves on Amazon are less than 20, even around 10 dollars. The fit of a light bike glove is worth it over saving a couple dollars on hardware gloves.

I have started cycling without them on shorter rides, because my hands are milky, white, pasty af while my arms actually are somewhat tanned by now. So on shorter rides I stopped wearing them, and well it is ok, but actually I can definitely feel a difference, in grip, in comfort.

Used to wear these.

The big box stores had them cheaper. Last winter wore cheap weight lifting gloves.

A good pair of half nylon half leather work gloves with Velcro look and feel pretty similar to full finger cycling gloves. They're heavier and don't breath as well but are a bit more durable.
A good pair of work gloves also costs as much as an ok pair of cycling gloves ($15-20).
The cycling specific ones are more comfortable.
I also have extremely dry fingers (nurse). I put hand cream on before my gloves and can leave them on the whole ride, even if I get a call or need to rummage around in my pockets. No way I could do that with work gloves.

I got a fever.
A basic pair of weight lifting gloves are pretty cheap. I feel like anything sold specifically for cycling gear and apparel always is marked up just because of the "specificity".
