Campy still makes lots of rim brake calipers as does SRAM.

I don't know much about Campy, but last I checked SRAM stopped supporting rim brakes on their two higher end groupsets.

One of my friends is running Red Etap 11s with rim brakes and he is infuriated that they are not supporting his groupset going forward.

This is a weird statement, considering that both Campy and SRAM have introduced hydro disc-only groupsets (Ekar and Rival eTap AXS) recently.

SRAM currently sells rim brake versions of both Force and Red eTap AXS 12sp, which are their two highest levels of road groupsets. Here's a link to the SRAM Force AXS rim brake shifter: https://www.sram.com/en/sram/models/eb-frc-d1
and here's the Red version: https://www.sram.com/en/sram/models/eb-red-d1

In terms of 11sp, you are correct that SRAM has discontinued making 11sp eTap, but they also announced that new 12sp shifters would be backwards compatible with 11sp eTap, which means your friend's 11sp eTap still has available replacement options:

Campy still does even in their top of the line components: Campagnolo Components | Chain Reaction (chainreactioncycles.com)

According to what I could find out SRAM still makes them in their Force AXS, RED AXS, Apex, and Rival 22: rim brakes | SRAM

Apparently Shimano at this time is the odd duck out, but their website seems to indicate that they are either making them currently or will make them: ROAD BRAKE | SHIMANO BIKE COMPONENT

Shimano sells rim brake versions of all of their road groupsets. I'm not sure why people in this thread keep claiming otherwise.

As far as I know, the only road groupset that is disc-brake only is SRAM Rival AXS. (You can still buy SRAM Rival mechanical with rim brakes).

Campy Ekar is disc-only, but that is more of a gravel groupset. Same with Shimano GRX.

I might have caused some of the confusion. Shimano does now sell rim brake versions, but I believe when they announced the semi-wireless 12 speed Di2 the initial report was that was disc only, which is kinda true, but they do support rim brakes with wired Di2.

I apologize for the confusion/error and return you to your regularly scheduled program.

Since 5600, I think that front shifting and set-up has gotten better. Also, you have the last generation of shifters with the cable jutting out from the side - all since have been routed under the bar tape and look much better. IMO, the first generation to do this did have slightly poorer shifting feel and they also had a reputation for chewing through cables, but things have gotten better since.

Thanks for the feedback Jolly. Yes, it looks like mixing a matching between generations is a no-go for some components, better to talk to LBS or dig deeper, but its good perspective that new bikes are a lot of marketing and slow evolution.
