Campagnolo Athena 11s
Currently riding with a Campy Athena11 group , 11x27 cassette and 53x39 crankset but this is currently too heavy for the type of ride. Can I change the cassette for a Campy Chorus 12x29 and also reduce the front chainring? if yes, do I need any other adjustment? Any other tips or recommendation? thank you

You should be fine putting a 29 on. You'll have to get a new crank to go smaller than what you now have.

I'm running Athena 11, 50-34/12-29. It works great. That gearing was offered as a standard option with 11 spd groupsets for at least the last generation of Athena.

I also have an Athena carbon 53/39, but that has the standard, 135 BCD spider, so the smaller rings won’t fit that one. That’s the OP’s problem, too.
If the OP does switch to a Campagnolo Athena compact crank, as I recall there was a design change (or changes) in ‘12, so it’s necessary to keep rings and cranks matched by production period, i.e. both up through 2011, or both period ‘12-‘14. I think that’s true across the model range, but I’m not 100% on that, so it’d be wise to double-check.

You can get a 50T outer chainring in an 11 spd 135 bcd, but it won't be Campagnolo. Both TA Specialties and Stonglight make 50T outers that fit 135 bcd. They probably make smaller outer 135 bcd chainrings but these are the smallest I've been able to find in the US.
