SRAM NX cassette 1x / 2x compatibility

Sram sells its NX level 11 speed cassette (PG-1130) in four (edit: five) versions: 11-26t, 11-28t, 11-32t, 11-36t, 11-42t.

On the product page, it says that the "11-36t and 11-42t cassettes are compatible with 1x drivetrains only"

https://www.sram.com/en/sram/models/cs-pg-1130-a1

Can someone confirm this is the case? I don't see why this can't be a drop in replacement in a GX 2x11 system where the derailleur is designed to handle the 10-42t GX cassette, which has a wider range that the cassette in question.

Which GRX RD? An RD has two limits: max cog size AND max chain wrap:

Max chain wrap = (largest chain ring - smallest chain ring) + (largest rear cog - smallest rear cog)

In a 1X setup, the first term in the above equals 0, so max chain wrap is only determined by the second term above. Whereas, in a 2X setup, both of the above terms affect max chain wrap.

With a SRAM GX 2x11 derailleur. The GX cassette matched for this derailleur is 10-42t.

OP posts that the cassettes are available in 4 versions...then lists 5.

You must read past my first question, and determine (1) which two chain rings you are using, and (2) what is max chain wrap of your RD?

Sram only sells a single crankset option in its GX 2x11 line: 24/36t. The GX derailleur is designed to use this crankset with a 10-42 cassette. The chain wrap is 44.

With the cassette in my question the chain wrap is 43. So why does SRAM mark this as incompatible?

I'm asking why SRAM marks its 11-42 cassette as 1x compatible only. The 11-42 cassette has a narrower range than SRAM's own 10-42 cassette. Any derailleur which can handle the 10-42 should be able to handle the 11-42 when using the same crankset.
I see; I did not know that there is only one 2x11 GX chain ring combo or that you are using it.

What you have proposed seems logically correct, i.e., that a GX RD which can handle 36/24 chain rings with a 10-42 cassette should also be able to handle a 11-42 cassette with the same 36/24 chain rings. And maybe this is confirmed on page 7 of the SRAM 2021 MTB Components Compatibility Map (if I am reading it correctly?) here:

gen0000000006273-rev-a-2021-mtb-components-compatibility-map.pdf (sram.com)

But note that there are two versions of this RD, with long and medium cages.

Good find with the compatibility chart. Looks like this is compatible and the SRAM product page is simply wrong.

SRAM should hire me to do due diligence on its product specifications.
