I was a daily commuter for 28 years.

Four bikes, I like variety, so I ride them all. They are all fun in their own way, so that's a plus.

The most ridden is my black, 2015 Charge Plug which I set up for commuting. It's a fast, but more relaxed ride that's less twitchy and needs less steering input.

Next is my 20-inch Dahon Boardwalk folder. I just bought it last summer, and the novelty factor is still high.

After that is my 1984 Nishiki International 12-speed. It's the lightest, fastest, quickest bike I have. The thin steel frame and fork give it a lovely, comfortable compliant ride. I'd commute with it in fair weather since I keep it fenderless for weight savings. Also, the one time I put a back rack on it (an impossibly light cannondale aluminum rack) it stiffened the frame too much.

The least ridden in fair weather (but not by much) is my SUV...my 1997 NIshiki Blazer 21-speed mountain bike. For 12 years it was my only bike. So it became highly modified for commuting. It has the impossibly heavy iron back rack from its 1980s predecessor. Wald folding baskets in back, fenders, and up until two years ago, a custom straight bar that was much wider than was in fashion in 1997 which grew to include inboard bar ends and an aero bar. Two years ago I converted it to a much simpler (and lighter) drop bar which made it even more fun to ride. It also has custom gearing, giving me much higher gears for faster cruising. Because of the baskets and its inherent sturdiness I ride it to the pet store for bags of cat food and kitty litter and rock salt in the winter and other stuff up to 60lbs so far. (I suppose a trailer would help with heavier loads). Spring/WInter/Fall it gets big smooth road tires, and in the winter it gets studded snow tires.

Five bikes and all get ridden with my Rivendell and Clockwork getting probably 75% of the miles. It's still fun to jump on the others for something different but could honestly live with just 2.

I guess I have 12-15 bikes.

I ride one most of the time and another once in a while. Only one of the bikes is sitting as a frame unbuilt although I have the parts, I cannot recall why I stripped it down.

That's 13 of 15 rideable (ok, maybe a couple of flats, one needs a freewheel). 2 project bikes with all parts in-house.

Lost the rotation regularity and behind on some maintenance, but the project bikes are nearing completion.
Always seeking a new thrill?

No bare framesets hanging around.

Admittedly, I should N minus 7/8/9 - to get in more riding time.
+1 and depends also on mood, energy level, and weather conditions.
I like to mix it up every day diff bike and route

Super hot today, so out to ride this on the bike trail, about a mile from my house:

Raleigh Pro, circa 1975

Unfortunately, about 6 miles in I found this:

I was not going to forge the raging waters today, so I turned back and rode the path in the other direction. Got about 24 miles and at 10:30am it was already 90º.

Nigel Tufnel of Spinal Tap, if he were a bike rider, would have one bike that has never been ridden, still with the tags hanging on it. It mustn't be ridden! Don't touch it, don't point at it; don't even look at it!

I am at 19 now and have a rotation riding them all unless down waiting for parts or time for maintenance. Some get extra rides would be specific for the task, they have a rack for shopping, are very light helping me keeping up with the kids, etc., those sorts of things.

I normally ride the bike that’s in the best condition, have 3-4 other “rideable” bikes and another few on backlog to fix. Storage is becoming an issue because work condemned the trailer that I was keeping most of them in, need to find another building. I don’t discriminate based on terrain, ride road bikes on dirt and mountain bikes see road.

I do now, I just unloaded and sold 3 bikes that saw little use past few years.

I now own a Carbon road, Aluminum Gravel, Steel tourer, aluminum HT, carbon FT (new). I think the fewest bikes I've owned in decades, but all get ridden

My 5 bikes are rather different. My life changes. Bikes go through periods of heavy use and near complete neglect.

The 5 bikes:
Geared TiCycles - currently having several issues looked at and being ridden very little as I focus on fix gear riding for next fall's Cycle Oregon. (2008 and 17,000 miles)
Fixed TiCycles - currently 2nd most ridden bike but it will not go to Cycle Oregon this time. (It's done 5 so far.) (2011 and 20,000 miles)
Peter Mooney - now a fix gear. Focusing on getting it and myself ready for Cycle Oregon. (You all know and 50,000 miles)
Trek fix gear - winter/rain/city. I'm not commuting; its reason for existing and it is being ridden very little. (2010 and 20,000 miles)
Competition - winter/rain/city geared bike. Does 18 mile round trip to the farmers market nearly every Saturday. (2016 and 5,000 miles)

I may be totally tired of fix gears after Cycle Oregon.
