Near miss today
This just happened on the outbound portion of my ride today. There may have been divine intervention involved. About :30 minutes into the ride, a violent but brief rain squall overtook me. It rolled in with wind gusts probably +/- 30 MPH. I heard a cracking sound, and then just about 75 feet in front of me this tree limb fell, blocking the street. (I got off my bike and pulled it to the side so cars could pass.) But, just ¼ mile earlier, crossing a busy road, if I had to wait on just one LESS car…I’d have been right under than limb.

Back in ‘00 I was touring Andalucia. It started raining one morning while I was still in my tent. Then the wind kicked up. I eventually heard a loud tearing sound and then a thud. Stuck my head out of my tent to find a large pine tree on the ground. Had I not moved my bike the night before it would have been crushed. Not only that, the tree hit about 3’ from the end of the tent where my head was.

I was hit by a much smaller branch while riding back in 2017, but it did knock my take-a-look mirror off.
