French Thread Stronglight Competition Headset

THIS ITEM IS SOLD

1 inch early 70s era Stronglight Competition headset. French threaded. No bearings. Threads and races in very good shape. Some very small pitting on the chrome but still very presentable. $50 with shipping included in the Continental US. PayPal or Venmo preferred. Will include two Stronglight Competition threaded caps (one is slightly taller than the other) and two crown races (one interior is milled 26.4 and one is stepped from 26.4 to 27 mm) so you can customize fit of stack height and match race better to the shape of your fork. I have also found a corresponding cable hanger that will be included. See picture below.

I was not clear. What is the internal diameter of the crown race? Typical may be 26.4mm, 26.5mm or 27.0mm

I always assumed these were standard sized, but just learned something new.

I looked at the two in my stash and measured with calipers. One has a completely smooth interior and measures 26.4. The other has an interior ridge that was milled wider. The bottom is 27 about 2/3 of the way up and the top 1/3 is 26.4. I will also include both races so that the buyer can use the one that fits their fork best.

The whole inner diameter measures 26.4 mm Race #1

Bottom inner diameter is 27 mm Race #2

Top inner diameter is 26.4 Race#2

That dual diameter is sort of interesting. If 27.0 crown then it presumably won’t seat all the way, if 26.4, there’s a hollow area at the seat.

Wonder why this was done. Stuff is in nice shape though.

The 27 mm part would be the bottom.

Never reflected on this before Lynn asked the question, but looking at some forks, there is a short and narrow ledge at the transition from the steerer tube to the shoulders of the fork legs. This transition probably makes for a better fit for those forks. Looks like the one with the 26.4 through the length of the interior is the common, default type. I’m including both so that whoever buys it has the right type of crown.

Including both of the screw on caps. I suspect the height difference helps depending on whether you are using side pulls (the taller one) or center pulls (shorter one) where you will be including a hanger in your stack height. I’m including both so buyer has option there, too.

Still available

Still have this available and added the hanger that goes with the headset for buyers who are running center pull brakes.
