One pulley is wider , can be a problem?

For years i'm using ergal pulleys with internal sealed bearing. After i noticed that one of the pulley has been worn out i ordered a new pair.
Today when i received the package i noticed that the new set of pulleys are more larger than the old one.
Basically the old pulley use a 16mm bolt and the new one seems to require a 20mm bolt.

At this point should i keep the the system like that or replace both pulley to have at least the same lenght.
Can the setup shown in the photo negative for some reason?

ps. the drivetrain seems working normally.

It seems odd that it is that big of a difference. Are you measuring the internal bearings/bushings?

What type/speed (rear sprockets)?

I wonder if somehow a 6/7 speed tension pulley got mixed up with a 10/11 speed guide pulley.

Probably the problem is because the bearing caps are wider.
I'm using a campy veloce 10s , but almost every pulley i saw seems to be almost the same this is the first time i found one really bulky,
maybe as last option i can sand it down

I might try buying a new one and see if it is any different.

You should have an inner bushing that is 1mm or 2mm wider than the outer bushing. So when everything gets tightened down against the inner bushing, the pulley still turns, and a slight bit of lateral float helps with shifting (maybe).

Did you order the same part number as before? They probably make more than one model.

I'd probably just order an entirely new DR for not much more.

I question if the width between the cage plates matters much as long as the cage clears the spokes (when in low cog) and the chain runs from pulley to pulley w/o issue or undo noise.

But one could add spacers to the narrow pulley to better match the wider one, get a matched pair which closer match the old pulley widths or replace the der altogether. Andy
