Rim Brake Cable Won’t Clamp Down

I am replacing the brake lines on a 2013 Carrera Virtuoso with Tektro Rim Brakes with a Clarke PTFE brake kit from Halfords. After setting up the brake and tightening the bolt that clamps against the wire, the cable slides through with a loud clunk whenever I squeeze the brake lever, ending up loose. Any clues?

Pinch bolts are less effective on Teflon coated cables. You might have more success if you scrape the coating off where it pinches. Otherwise, you really have to torque down on it.

Ahh I didn’t realise the cables were coated in Teflon I thought it was just another layer in the housing. I shall give that a try thank you.

It can't be be that slippy.
Either you are not tightening the bolt enough or the cable and pinch bolt are in the wrong position.
Or the outer is pulling thru somewhere.

How would you recommend removing the coating?

First thing, confirm that it does indeed have a PTFE coating. Should be easy enough as they usually have a dark colour rather than bright silver. If you find that you cannot get enough torque on the pinch bolt to hold it in place without stripping the threads, then I would scrape the area of the pinch point with a knife to remove ONLY the outer coating.
I have done this with Teflon derailleur cables. Even they can slip through the pinch bolt and the pull force there is much less than the brake would have.
