Correct bottles for Elite water bottle cages
Hello, I have a couple NOS Elite water bottle cages. Standard size bottles such as my Polar 24 oz. bottle and my Nathan water bottle will not fit. I'll attach a photo of cages. These came on a vintage bike I bought. Anyone else know if water bottles were smaller diameter for these vintage holders ? Thanks.

It's the diameter that I need for it to fit. The circumfrence on the newer bottles are too big.

Interesting. I’m not aware of bottles having gotten bigger around. The openings have gotten wider, but I’ve never had the thought bottle body circumference has gotten larger. Who knows, though? I think of Elite cages like that as not so old, either, like maybe late ‘90s? 2000s? I don’t recall…. Anyway, if bottles don’t fit, they don’t fit. Maybe try one of Elite’s vintage styled, Vintage Squeeze bottles…

If you want small there's these kid sized 350ml ones.... Both of my kids have them. I wish they'd ride far enough to need larger bottles!

Or do you need these "Bajiji" model bottles specifically for Elite? Apparently they did do a narrower '66' mm model cage and bottles for a while. wasn't just being an older model, but designed to fit easier in jersey pockets. If these are the cages you have, I'd get new cages or live with scarcity of replaceable bottle options.

I guess it's made so that you can also fit a can of Coke or a Tallboy in there.. so if you have a soda sitting around, see if it fits.

I'd just buy cages to fit my favorite water bottle. Actually I'd buy cages that aren't so fussy about what is put in them.

I think Elite cages are just very tight even for the same brand bottles. I have Elite Custom Race Skin cages (Amazon.com : Elite 0061698 Custom Race Skin Water Bottle Cage, Black : Bike Water Bottle Cages : Sports & Outdoors) and they are very tight even for the Elite Fly 550 mL or the Polar Breakaway 20 oz. bottles.

I purchased the Bajiji bottles that are made for the cages. These are new cages and came with the 91 Lemond Calfee bike I purchased. I hate not getting use out of equipment when the cure is just buy the correct bottles to fit the cages. Plus these cages will fit off the shelf water bottles or energy drinks in it without rattling around or falling out. Here is a link to my frame I got back after having the fork repainted and some decals replaced.

Really pleased with the way it rideds. I am the same height as Johan so frame fits perfect. I used a lot of the components the bike came with. I used Campagnolo Record 9 speed on it. It came with Tektro carbon brake calipers and a carbon crank set that I changed over to 53-39 chainrings. I used the carbon seat post and stem the bike came with too. I managed to find a new Chris King 1" headset in place of the Miche Pr1mato headset. I just wanted a sealed bearing headset. All the components were like new that were on the bike.
